Ozzfest 2008: 10 Acts Selected To Take Part In 'Battle Of The Bands'

Texas radio station 97.1 The Eagle has teamed up with The Loft and Monster Energy to send one lucky band to kick off this year's Ozzfest.

The "grand prize" winner will play on the Monster Energy Drink Stage (Texas Stage) at Ozzfest and will receive a one-year contract agreement with Monster Energy Drink.

The following 10 bands have been selected to take part in the "Battle Of The Bands" on August 7 at The Loft in Dallas:

Debri

Early Pearl

Calling All War

Moving Atlas

Rivethead

Serosia

Born 2 Nothing

Ozzfest organizers confirmed earlier in May through a post at the official web site that the festival, a touring event for more than a decade, will transform into a "destination festival" this summer. Ozzy Osbourne and Metallica will headline the one-day show on August 9. Also appearing on the main stage are Serj Tankian, Korn singer Jonathan Davis, Hellyeah, Cavalera Conspiracy, Shadows Fall, Apocalyptica, In This Moment and what's being billed as an "all-star tribute" to slain Pantera and Damageplan guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott.

Rumors had been circulating for months that Ozzfest would become a one-or-two-day event this summer, with Metallica surfacing as a potential headliner in the last few weeks. This will be the band's first Ozzfest appearance.

Last year's Ozzfest, which hit 25 cities, was a free event, with tickets handled through corporate sponsorship. The tour caused controversy by asking acts to play without getting paid, which many felt led to a weaker lineup.

Come on. The last thing needed is another tribute to Dimebag. He wasn't THAT influential, absolutely overrated, and everyone needs to stop shoving his corpse down all our throats. But I digress: my name has nothing to do with the guitar player, for anyone wanting to know.

Obviously, Dimebag Dave, you don't know anything about guitar. Some of the greatest guitarist of our time have said how awesome Dimebag was and how INFLUENTIAL he was. Not only that, he was far from overrated, unlike Hammett from Metallica. Sure, he's good, but it's all repetitive techniques drowned out with a wah. Dimebag did so many things that were unique yet simple and sounded bad ass! No one is shoving him down your throat, they're just showing him some RESPECT! Hell, they were his friends, for crying out loud! I'm sure I'm not the only that feels this way. Next time you hear some Pantera, Damageplan, or Rebel Meets Rebel, really open up your f**kin' ears and listen!

haha i went to see Ozzfest. they came to my home town of Frisco, which is like 30Minutes away from dallas. but holy shit everything about that show was amazing. the tribute to dimebag, oh, and moshing to devildriver was amazing. ozzy and metallica were amazing. i was so ****ing happy i went =]
