Ozzfest 2009 Cancelled

2009 is shaping up to be a busy year for Mr. Ozzy Osbourne. So busy, in fact, that he has decided to cancel his annual festival tour, Ozzfest, in order to focus more of his time on his forthcoming album.

The following announcement was posted on the official Ozzfest website yesterday:

"Ozzy Osbourne is currently in the studio in Los Angeles co-producing his 10th studio album with Kevin Churko. The new CD is the rock & roll legend's follow-up to 2007's Black Rain which debuted in the Top Ten on the album charts in 11 countries and spawned Ozzy's first ever #1 active rock track, “I Don't Wanna Stop” (which also sat atop the Heritage Rock chart for more than 20 weeks). The two-time Grammy Award winner has decided that he will not be touring until he has a new album in-stores (currently projected to be Thanksgiving 2009). Thus, Ozzy has decided to put his namesake festival Ozzfest on hold this year."

"In the meantime, if you need an Ozzy fix you can watch him with Sharon, Kelly and Jack on the “first family of rock's” return to television. The Osbournes: Reloaded is set to launch this spring on Fox TV. Stay tuned for more information [on] The Osbournes: Reloaded and the new Ozzy Osbourne album."

This year’s cancellation will mark the first time the tour has skipped a year since it’s inception in 1996. Hopefully the tour will return to its former glory when it returns in 2010. Many fans have been vocal about their displeasure in the last couple years of Ozzfest. 2007’s "Freefest" featured a less than stellar line-up and 2008 reduced Ozzfest from a touring festival to a 1-day destination festival in Texas.

I don't know, I didn't care too much for Black Rain, it was a little too dark. Now Purple Rain? There was an album you could set your watch to. For me, it's Purple Rain or No Rain at all.

...although, Chocolate Rain was good...then there was Red Rain, November Rain...

In pertinent news I think it's pretty whack of him to cancel Ozzfest, I guess it's not too much skin (skin made of money) off his back (also made of money).

Deep down, I knew Ozzfest was caput when it was only one date last year.. Kinda sucks, I've been to four or five of them and I found a lot of new bands going to the shows, and had awesome experiences like ditching the Slipknot set the year they headlined the second stage, went to the main stage and watched girls show their hooters GGW style, and security loved it, haha. if I had to choose between having ozzfest or a new ozzy album, I would most certainly choose the latter. and I hope everyone else would do the same. Black Rain was a pretty quality album, hopefully this album will be as good, but with more imagination on zakk's part. I'm a huge wylde fan but he seems to have run out of ideas on riffs and solos lately.

Well im seeing The Faceless, Cynic and Meshuggah later today then 1349, Neurosis, Mastodon and Harvery Milk later at the Scion Rock fest for free. When you can see all those bands in one month for 35$ who cares about ozzfest. IMO you cant really top Behemoth and Nile at one show. Alot better than psuedo-metal and slipknot.

I love the old Ozzy, but....money rules...and ozzy knows where the cash is at...and if he can make an album that will make more money than ozzfest (which it did), he will make an album. Ozzy has to pay out way to much money to sponsors and stages and set ups that, like Bonnaroo or Download Festival, the best thing to do is have one super badass concert that makes a lot of revenue just to save the Ozzfest name, and then spend the rest of the year making an album. i live in Canada, I went to the one ozzfest they had in
Toronto... I was told it was a watered down version of the ones in the states (set up kinda like warped tour, with stages all around the park) anyways the Ozzfest in Toronto was on one stage with like 5-6 bands playing all day! it was fun, System of a Down headlined, there was hatebreed, trivium, atyrue, lacuna coil, and some other bands... my point being is that it was more like a SOAD concert then anything else, since it really wasn't festival like (mind you that was the last of SOAD before they went on hiatus). So missing an ozzfest would suck, but not for me!
