Petition Asks Metallica And The Offspring To Tour Together
Metallica fans have been signing a petition in an attempt to get the band to tour with the multiplatinum punk rockers The Offspring. The petition text reads as follows: "This would be a kicka-s tour. Metallica and The Offspring are both awesome bands and they changed the lives of any punk rocker or metalhead. Both bands have many things in common; they have been labeled as the best-selling artists in America of all time, sold at least over 50 million records worldwide, released defining albums (Metallica with "Kill 'Em All", "Ride The Lightning", "Master Of Puppets", ...And "Justice For All" and "The Black Album", The Offspring with "Smash" and "Americana"), achieved gold or platinum status with their records and had #1 hits in America." If the tour were to happen next year, it would be in support of Metallica's highly-anticipated upcoming tenth studio album, which is expected to be released in early 2014 and will be their first since 2008's "Death Magnetic". The as-yet-untitled album is being produced by Rick Rubin, who handled the same role on "Death Magnetic". The Offspring announced last December that they are also working on a new album, which will serve as the follow-up to last year's "Days Go By", produced by Bob Rock, who worked with Metallica as their producer from 1991's self-titled album to 2003's "St. Anger". The tour also wouldn't be the first time Metallica and The Offspring played a show together. Both bands were on the bill for the sixteenth annual KROQ Weenie Roast, which took place on May 17, 2008 in Irvine, California as well as that year's Rock Am Ring and Rock Im Park festivals in Germany. Metallica and The Offspring will both be participating in the tour of this year's Soundwave Festival, which begins this Saturday (February 23rd) and ends on March 4th.
