Phish playing Madison Square Garden on (or around) New Year’s Eve is sort of a tradition, with the band having performed there in late December five different times in their career.
After reuniting last year, the jam band are looking to renew that tradition with a three-night stand at the New York venue on December 30 and 31 and January 1, according to Spinner.com.
Trey Anastasio and Co. will surely have something special planned for those concerts, considering that MSG shows loom large in Phish lore.
The band first played the venue on December 30, 1994 and one of the most storied Phish shows took place one year and one day later.
The December 31, 1995 concert – a huge fan favorite – was even released as a box set.
As in the past, Phish will likely perform their customary three-set show on New Year’s Eve. The band last did a New Year’s Eve show at the venue in 2002.
