Phoenix Lines Up Spring US Dates

Grammy-winning alternative rockers Phoenix will wrap a few headlining dates this spring around their impending appearance at the Coachella Festival.

The French group kicks off the outing April 17 in Santa Cruz, CA, a day before the four-member outfit lands in Indio, CA, for its slot at the three-day outdoor festival. Afterwards, the band will head across the US for a slate of additional headlining dates that wraps April 30 in Houston.

"Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix," the group's fourth studio set, hit shelves in May. Recorded in Paris by Phillippe Zdar - one half of the French house-music duo Cassius - the 10-track release follows "It's Never Been Like That," which surfaced in 2006.

The new set, which took home a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album category last month, peaked at No. 37 on The Billboard 200, and its first single, "1901," peaked at No. 9 on Billboard's Alternative Songs chart.

"It took two years to write them all," guitarist Christian Mazzalai told LiveDaily in a recent telephone interview. "It's kind of blurry how we wrote them. We just had this theory, when writing the new album, that, with every album, we try new techniques to write songs. We try not to repeat ourselves. We recorded 1,000 pieces on a small Dictaphone, a very cheap recorder. We recorded, like, 15 hours of pieces of music."
