Queen are in talks with former "American Idol" singer Adam Lambert about a possible tour.
Lambert sang with Queen at the MTV Europe Awards last month in Ireland, and fans could get more of the pairing in the future, according to drummer Roger Taylor.
"He has grown into a really great performer with an astonishing voice with a range that's great," Taylor told Billboard in Los Angeles while finalizing the tribute band for a Queen Extravaganza tour. "We would like to work with him again. There's nothing signed just yet, but we're talking about live dates. It could be very exciting."
Lambert sang three songs with Queen when they picked up their MTV Global Icon Award in Belfast; they did "The Show Must Go On" and "We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions".
After the show, Lambert tweeted his excitement about the experience, saying,
"What an enormous honor to sing w QUEEN! I could feel the spirit of Mercury alive on stage tonight! Thank u Brian and Roger and crew. LOVE".
Last month wasn’t the first time for Lambert and Queen: Adam and fellow "Idol" contestant (and season 8 winner) Kris Allen performed with the band on the season finale back in 2009.
Adam Lambert, Kris Allen w/ Queen – We Are The Champions (American Idol, Season 8 finale, May 20, 2009):
Man Queen have become some of the biggest sellouts in rock history. I love them, but I'm just saying they're really losing the music, collab'ing with all these pop artists. But I still have respect for them, because they did it without trying to please anyone else, merely for the reason that they wanted to. So I guess they didn't sell out.
Adam Lambert is a great singer and he'd fit really well with Queen. Much more than Paul Rodgers. Sure, his solo work was pretty meh, but he had some sick Rock covers on American Idol.
Please no ADAM LAMBERT?!?! No LADY GAGAGA?!!?! Queen, you are top tier superstar mega entity BAND! Those people should be no where near your stage. If your are to perform live, you need Paul Rogers at the helm. You guys together were explosive!! One of the BEST live performances I have ever seen.
How can you listen to that clip and still say he can't do justice to Queen's catalogue? That was one of the best vocal covers i've ever heard. For a second, take your foot off the 'AMERICAN IDOL SUXXXX' pedal and actually rate the vocalist on his own merit.
Queen is a celebration of life. More than just a band, and everyone is invited.
To be perfectly honest, I've always said no one will/can compare to Mr Mercury ^^, (I've been a huge queen fan since about the age of like 7 ^^)
But Adam is an amazing vocalist, no he's not Freddie and nor is he going to be, but why shouldn't they be able to perform their songs with an amazing vocalist... and personally I think he fits the bill a lot better than Paul Rogers ^^
But hey everyone is entitled to their own opinions

Freddie was not just about singing good, he was a performer above all. That dude is not even %10 of a performer that FM was
Why don't these guys just accept that the singer of Foxy Shazam should be their new singer?? Although wouldn't have a problem with Adam Lambert doing it, he's not bad.

Damn right. Eric Sean Nally should be their first choice. But I love Foxy so much that I'm not sure I'd want him to leave to go tour with Queen.
For those who don't know, Adam Lambert is one of the greatest contemporary male vocalists alive today, so yes, if someone has to sing with Queen... it should be this guy. It doesn't matter if his music is nothing like Queen, his voice fits Queen REALLY well.

They got creeped out by Eric Nally's cigarette eating

It surprises me to see everyone being "okay" with it. I guess it's because it's Queen. They became untouchable 'til the end of time when Freddie died. But SERIOUSLY? Can you not see it's just a maneuver from those greedy money-hungry rats from Universal to bring the cash in ? I'll probably get downvotes, but I can hear it loud and clear. Queen is just a ghost of what it was, obsolete without Freddie. I don't wanna sound like I'm bashing them 'cause I love'em, but don't swallow it.

I think you're the one who doesn't know here. You need to listen to more music and expend your cultural approach to art if you really believe Adam Lambert "one of the greatest contemporary male vocalists alive today".
Holy shit. Just holy ****ing shit.
Have Roger and Brian ever stopped and considered, that maybe this whole Queen gig is a thing of the past and should be left alone... With it's FULL glory still intact. Don't sully the reputation by continuing on, when it's clearly not meant to be.
Start up under a new name if you find a new singer. Sure, you may lose some interest due to brand recognition, but if they pair up with a famous vocalist, their will be enough media/fan attention to keep the train rolling. Hell, you could even bust out Queen hits here and there as odes to your beloved friend Fred.

As in technical ability as opposed to the usual ratings system of Ultimate Guitar, which is based soully on the notority of a singer/artist. Lambert has the most ridiculous range of any man on this planet. He has great tone and incredible vibrato on the higher notes, and if you watch the video included he hits a D(5) with no trouble whatsoever. Given songs like Who Wants To Live Forever by Queen go that high, that would make him a pretty sweet replacement for Freddie. As someone who's had vocal training for 2 years now maybe you should trust what I'm saying instead of being a pretentious prick and immediately writing someone off cos they're not Freddy Mercury or Jon Bon Jovi.
Adam lambert is ucky enough to have a range as good as freddies. Queen aren't selling out , they are just meeting the demand from their fans to find a singer and lambert is the perfect replacement. It doesn't matter where lambert came from , his voice more than makes up for it.
On the comments about stage presence / performance. YES freddie was the best of them all. But when you buy a CD , you buy it for the music because the performer isn't right in front of you. If lambert can nail the show must go on like that live all the time then he has done FM proud.
Lets see you hit those notes with perfect vibrato and then you can judge what is special and what isn't. As far as im conerned his range and technique are very rare , one out of 100 million

Partly. But also Adam Lambert is one of the most ridiculously gifted young male singers around. He's also got great stage presence. I'm not saying he's flawless and a 100% perfect replacement but they could do a hell of a lot worse. Say what you will about how he became famous and about his own music but there is no denying that in terms of sheer, raw talent, Adam Lambert is pretty much as good as you can get with few exceptions.
as much as im against it, if anyone should do it, it should be this guy

Man I've watched that video so many times. His voice is fantastic. I'd much rather see Queen give somebody like him a chance instead of just going with a flavor-of-the-month pop star that will be irrelevant in 3 years.
How about no? Queen was like the Victorian Era; it died when Queen Victoria died. Face it, Queen is not and will not be the same after Freddy Mercury's death.
I didn't really like the EMA performance.. Adam Lambert is a great singer, but when I saw him performing with Brian May and Roger Tayler that night, I didn't see any kind of chemistry between them.. Adam didn't interact with the band, and that is something Freddie Mercury did very well..
But we should stop comparing, there's never going to be a second Freddie Mercury, he was unique.. People like Adam Lambert are the closest we can get.. I'm satisfied

Just the fact that you called me a "pretentious prick" just goes to show that you're not in any way capable of discussing music intelligently in our obviously different schemes of things. Your weak and low awareness of the vast empire of music is further confirmed by your insults. Not to mention your attempt to prove your high status by praising your vocal training. You're bashing UG ignorant users and yet you're acting like one. Anyway, if you think technical abilities are everything, I believe you're as close-minded as the ones basing talent on notoriety. Cheers.

I mean really?...
He DOES have a good voice...But if your going to focus on his "technique" based on your 2 year tenure as an amateur vocalist...slow down. And how it's impressive he can hit a High D...take a seat. Listen to Chiodos, D.R.U.G.S., The Used and a TON of other pop punk/post hardcore bands that can do that pretty easily and with awesome emotion and technique.
Anyway...he has "stage presence" but I just don't think he will have that immaculate crowd connection that Freddie Mercury did.
Best of luck to them and I hope they continue making music!

I misused the word contemporary like a douchebag, thinking it meant mainstream. I know there are better singers than him out there, and wouldn't make a sweeping statement like "he's the best singer on the planet right now", cos unlike most people who seem to be commenting on here, I don't think I know everything. He's the best mainstream, widely known singer about these days, and has a great voice for classic rock. That was my point.

All these american idols singers r just garbage.
Only people that like them listen to crappy new age pop rap and rnb garbage...
Queen died when Freddie Mercury died! hearing idiol wannabe singers is just torture. They r like nails to a chalkboard.
Seriously? What drugs r u guys on even comparing these garbage singers to Freddie?
Where the **** am I? EVERYONE IS SERIOUSLY LOVING THIS SHIT? Did I just read that Lambert is technically as good as Freddie? Kudos to American Idol. Universal producers, you win. Again. Brainwashing, how does it work?
Adam Lambert is the gayest man in the world and will never fit in Queen.
Love that. Remember this other gay dude called Freddie Mercury? If I remember correctly, he used to sing pretty well and if I'm not mistaken, he was actually one of the driving forces behind Queen's success. Fancy that!
On another note, I just hope they don't take Lambert. Their Paul Rodgers experiment didn't work too well. I don't mind them doing it under a side project, but under the Queen name just won't work. You cannot replace Freddie and there's no point in trying.
Anyone else think that Lambert's vibrato in this video at least is WAAAAAYYY too quick? Sounds like if I tried to do vibrato as fast as I could on my guitar.
Why don't these guys just accept that the singer of Foxy Shazam should be their new singer?? Although wouldn't have a problem with Adam Lambert doing it, he's not bad.
As much as it's great to see Brian and Roger still rocking, they've gone about it so wrong this time. Paul Rodgers was a great singer in his own right, that tour was a tribute to Freddie as much as bringing the music/shows to a new generation, but this is just pissing on their legacy. One of my favourite bands but really this is selling out.
queen should just stop, everything they do nowdays is like a kick in the nuts the band. the best thing they done so recently was playing with the foos.

If you actually think that they'll find an equal to Freddie Mercury then you are setting yourself up for failure. Adam Lambert happens to have the range Freddie had, that in it of itself gives an appeal to the band.
As far as concerning the top quote, it's inconsistent.

You all need to stop being so cynical. If the band still enjoys performing and wants to play with a great vocalist, good for them. The shows will probably kick ass. Enough with all of the "it's not queen without freddie!!!" comments. It won't be the same, but who says it's supposed to be? Get over it.

I think i have a pretty big musical horizon. And a statement i make including only 3 bands needs to not be taken so seriously as a definitive list of things i listen to.
