Red Hot Chili Peppers Announce Comeback

Red Hot Chili Peppers have announced their comeback concert.

The US funk rockers went on hiatus in 2008 after 25 years together, but have said that they will play the charity concert MusiCares 2010 on January 29, honouring Neil Young for his services to the musicians' charity.

Three members of the group played the same concert earlier this year which was honouring Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis, but this will be the first time the whole group has played together since they completed the last leg of their "StadiumArcadium Tour".

In May 2008, Kiedis announced the band was taking a break of "at least a year".

He said: "We're disbanded for the moment. We actually took a very long time to make the 'Stadium Arcadium' record, it took forever. It was really a gruelling, long haul and it followed two other very long hauls, 'Californication' and 'By the Way'."

However the "Under The Bridge" hitmakers returned to the studio last month to record their follow-up album to 2006's "Stadium Arcadium" which, according to drummer Chad Smith, will be released next year.

In September, the band were nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame - in their first year of eligibility - and will find out if they have been awarded the honour in the new year.

Other artists playing the MusiCares 2010 concert include alt-country band Wilco, jazz singer Norah Jones and veteran singer James Taylor.

Thanks for the report to Contactmusic.com.

Well, Anthony was clean during Mother's Milk and Blood Sugar, and the rest of them weren't into anything crazy, either.

Stadium Arcadium has really grown on me, and as far as that goes, Stadium Arcadium live>Stadium Arcadium album.

not sure if thats true...they were (relatively) clean for californication and IMO that's their best album, but then again thats my opinion

I loved stadium arcadium. the thing about it is... sure, it has some duds. More than any other chili peps record. but pick the best 15 tracks from both disks and you have yourself (possibly) the best Chili Peppers records.

I don't think you can accuse them of stepping too far from their roots and I'm glad they didn't just remake a previous album. look at the new wolfmother album, stockdale attempted to remake the debut and failed miserably.

Anthony was sober during MM and BSSM but on drugs when they made "One Hot Minute". I think it's more about growing up and slowing down. According to most artists the drugs just slow down the creative process. Btw Stadium was awesome and so was "The Empyrean". I'm very hopeful

Thats fine that you don't like the lyrics. But How are the lyrics terrible..? You seem lost as to why Kiedis would sing about an 18 year old, but you say your happy with him singing about f-ing Eve? (Sir Psycho Sexy)

Couldn't have anything to do with the fact that Sir Psycho is just a cool, funny song that should not be taken seriously at all, whereas others might interpret Kiedis singing about 18 year old females a bit, hum, suggestive? Ironic? Hypocritical? Whatever people want to believe, though.

Why all the excitment? They never went anywhere. A year off is called a very nice vacation. 3 yrs a hiatus. Anthony was extremely over the top by saying that they were temporarily disbanding! IT WAS A YEAR FOR CHRIST SAKE! And everybody but anthony has been busy during that year. Mothers Milk and everything before it were their best stuff. Still good live!

red hot chili peppers are such an average band. i cant get why everyone loves these guys. meh. i cant get into them. they must be doing something right if they got nominated for the rock n roll hall of fame

this is going to be a wild one i think. I cant wait. I never really kept up with a band but, red hot chilli peppers is a solid group that i always had interest in. I hope that they are being awarded the "honour in the new year." It has been a long come back. Its good to see them again.

why do people hate on stadium arcadium so much? Its not really full of pop hits like previous albums and its not full of raging punch you in the face funk but thats no reason to hate on it. People need to actually take stadium as what it was made for a cool double disc explosion into another world. Your not supposed to just pop the album in and skip through every song just cause you dont like the first 5 seconds of certain things. You have to devote a huge chunk of time to it. Pop the album in and listen to it completely from disc 1 to disc 2 and then backwards and tell me it isnt one of the most interesting amazing bits of music you have ever listened to. Each song goes together so hand in hand and each ending song closes each disc so well. Man you people are blind go burn cant stop, californication, by the way and cant stop on an album and stop your bitching cause thats only probably what you listen to anyway.

To use a cliche that has been used many times for this news article.
About time.
I love RHCP and believe them to be one of the more original bands to come out of the 80's.
John Frusciante is a god and should get way more respect in the music world for his solo stuff then he does currently

the red hot chili peppers never cease to amaze me theres not many other bands who can stay together 26 years and still produce insanely good music. just look at guns n roses...chinese democracy = failure. and metallica's st. anger wasn't much better (death magnetic was a little bit better, but that's not the point). RHCP just have such creative minds...even though they matured a lot, they still found ways to make their music great

And im pretty sure the majority of people would find the lyrics to SPS just a little more suggestive than Shes only 18...
If he was singing about a 14 year old then I would see your point.

RHCP, Wilco, Norah Jones, and James Taylor at one show? Sounds interesting.

Glad to hear that RHCP is about to be very active again.

This is the only band that has never disappointed me. This is also the only article about a band where I've seen practically no comments flaming said band. Erego... RHCP = Best band ever?

Hopefully the new record sounds more old-school. I didn't like stadium arcadium or californication very much.

i like how you're an hour late to work, yet you take the time to stop in to the UG news page and comment on an article instead of rushing out of the house so you don't get sacked. nice work ethic.
