Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival 2012 Lineup Announced

In a post on their official Facebook page, the list of bands for this year's Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival have been revealed. The main stage will be the strongest ever with the headlining slot occupied by multi-platinum Iowa legends Slipknot. Next up will be legendary thrash metal kings Slayer and then a major special guest (rumored to be Motörhead) will be playing in the third slot, the details of which will be announced on March 5. The main stage will also spotlight a ferocious mix of today's best artists in a rotation, including The Devil Wears Prada, As I Lay Dying and Asking Alexandria.

In 2012 the tour has upgraded the production on the festival stage and this year the Jägermeister Stage will feature a special headline set by metal masters Anthrax supported by a rotation of The Devil Wears Prada, As I Lay Dying and Asking Alexandria, along with Whitechapel, High On Fire and the Jägermeister opener. Please note that bands may vary per market.

The Devil Wears Prada are pretty awesome. I wasn't a fan of their earlier stuff, but everything changed when they released Zombie EP and Dead Throne. Those albums are great. As I Lay Dying has always been a favorite of mine and I've always been looking forward to seeing them. As for Asking Alexandria, their first album was pretty enjoyable. Their second album sucked and was a huge letdown.

Uh, why not be picky? Concerts cost money, and there are more concerts spread throughout the year than just sponsored package fests and big arena shows. Not all shows are created equally, and if I just want to hear music and have a good time, there are cheaper alternatives than a show in an arena.

Out of those, the only band I really dislike is Asking Alexandria. They were OK for a little while, the first album, but I'd rather listen to anything else now. I actually do like TDWP and AILD. They get a lot of crap for being metalcore, but unlike most metalheads, I can actually appriciate good metalcore. That said, I like pretty much the rest of the lineup, with Slayer, Slipknot, Anthrax, and High On Fire. Whitechapel kinda bore me, but they aren't bad. I won't see this anyway, though, as it won't be anywhere near me.

To be honest, this was the first year I planned on going to this festival. Unfortunately after seeing the lineup I'm dissapointed and probably won't be going. I love Anthrax and respect Slayer other than that... Sorry. I also love Motörhead but adding them wont make up for asking alexandria or any of that other shit

I can understand that the line up for this year may seem a little lackluster for some of you, and believe me I agree. I much preferred last years to this. But with that being said, you guys should still check out this show because going to concerts is some of the most fun I have ever had. Even if the bands weren't what I'm into. Seeing a band live can give you a whole new perspective on them and thats exactly what happened to me with TDWP. Though I still don't care for their music I find them respectable. So go and just have fun.

I'm just amused at the people ripping on most of the line up bands using their snobbish opinions because they clearly know more about metal than anybody else, so much that they can automatically detect "fake" metal... Enjoy ranting about bands that do not make an impact on your life.. For example I don't like The Devil Wears Prada because I think most of their songs are bland, but that won't stop me from enjoying the rest of the lineup... Whether you love or hate most of the line-up, they are known for playing some great live shows (especially Slipknot and Asking Alexandria) and I think that is all that matters with this tour.

I saw Slayer the last time they were on Mayhem and honestly they sucked that time. I've never really been a giant Slayer fan but I was still disappointed. But I will go just to see one of those 3 bands that will be rotated in, Slipknot, and Anthrax. I haven't been able to see any of them live and I'm not going to miss them playing in my back yard.

Each band delivers a great and unique sound/performance that I'm sure is worth watching. You don't accomplish anything by trashing on bands who work hard on their music for others to enjoy.
