The Rolling Stones have denied a Fox News web report that they will play the Live Earth show in Britain on July 7. "Not happening," a spokesman for the band said in an email.
Fox News columnist Roger Friedman reported on Tuesday that the Stones would headline the show at London's Wembley Stadium.
Such an appearance would have necessitated postponing the band's previously announced show for Rome on July 6, as it no longer plays consecutive nights.
Seven Live Earth shows will take place around the globe on July 7 to draw attention to environmental issues. The Rolling Stones, largely at guitarist Keith Richards' behest, rarely align themselves with political events, although Hollywood producer Steve Bing did pay them to play a free concert in Los Angeles four years ago to benefit an environmental group.
Thanks for the info to Reuters.

: Democrats rule, Republicans are brain dead.!! I personally like politics in music. I think it's F***in Great dude!! Keith should stand up for his politics and quit worrying about how much money he can make from fans by playing both sides. I have a ton of respect for bands like, Springsteen, Pearl Jam, REM, Dixie Chicks, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. They are not worried about how many fans they please or how much money they might lose by speaking their political opinion. They have balls!! Bring the F***in troops home NOW!!! : Being a political band is annoying. Rock N Roll bands are musicians. I want to hear them play not talk about politics and government. POSTED: 03/31/2007 - 06:10 pm / quote |

Actually I think they're taking more of a stand by staying out of the political arena. Many people have stuck their foot in their mouth by saying something that was quite politically incorrect.
People go to school to be in politics for a reason. It's tough stuff. And musicians write and play music. Sure, us musicians should have a voice and opinion, but have a say in politics? Not a chance, that's why we vote. That's like having a circus clown try to do surgery. He wouldn't know jack about anything once he got in there. Same thing with musicians. Ya can't mix the two.
On the side note with the stones, I commend them for staying out of everything.POSTED: 03/31/2007 - 06:32 pm / quote |

Personally, I'm not a puppet or marionette for either side, but I have to say, guitar67 is as bad as the extremists on the right. Oh, and although I may be a little unhappy with our direction in Iraq, I can also clearly see that by pulling out, the insurgents will win. This can't happen and I suspect greater minds than either of ours will ensure that it doesn't.
Keith Richards is awesome. As a rhythm guitarist, he is so damned good and influential. And as a dude who doesn't want to to insult half of his fans with his irrelevent political thoughts, I really respect him for that. He understands that these fans have dug him and his music for decades, do you really think he is going to rip them apart?
I wouldn't be surprised if Keef didn't give a rats's ass about the corrupt politicians on either side of he aisle. Life is too short and he isn't going to waste it by joining some socialist group bent on changing the world.
Mick on the other hand...

: Politics isn't tough stuff. Politics is your fu**in opinion, duty, and obligation as an American. I'd rather you be totally against what my opinion is, then not have one at all. I don't agree with Ted Nugents politics, but I like him as a musician. And I love the Stones. Man, the war in Iraq will be going on for 100 to 1000 years or longer, there is nothing we can do for these people. Why haven't they worked on their differences 100 years ago or 500 years ago? To me, Iraq is on another galaxy, let it go. We did what we could. America is not God!! Give me health insurance,
Fix the slums of our inner cities. Sunnis, Shiites or shit, I don't give a damn any more. Bring em' Home! Bring em' Home!POSTED: 04/01/2007 - 01:36 pm / quote |

: The insurgents will win if you bring the troops home? ... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA
HAHAH omg...my sides hurt... seriously you're jokes are killing me
So your country demolishes their infrastructure, is now forcing a hydrocarbon law giving american and foreign multinationals ridiculous slimy deals to profit off of Iraq's oil before the f*ckin iraqi's can, and the insurgents (i.e., people fighting an occupying force in their own neighbourhoods where they were born and riased, like those minute men terrorists you learn about in school fighting the british) have no ****ing viable future for their families, their communities, their hopes of decent government....
All your presence does is fuel the fire of the insurgency, destroy morevital infrastructure for schooling, hospitals, etc, create more despair, starvation, joblessness, poverty, and violence, and you have the gall to imply that you can help...that American troops can help...
You have nerve.... (ps...my brother is a canadian soldier who has fought and kille din afghanistan these past few months...so dont give me none of your you dont support the troops bs...its garbage...your morality is questionable...or your gullible)
