Not since the time of the famous Woodstock has a musical event commanded such global attention. The spotlight on this unique opportunity for is rightful mirrored in the passion for global change; musically, environmentally and socially. This well could be the musical spark to create a true global change.
Rothbury has the true potential to take musical and environmental awareness to the next level. The unification of over 75 bands and musicians with the expected participation of 40,000 people may very well create an unprecedented global awareness of the issues that cut to the heart of that which is truly meaningful; love of music, love of earth, love of each other.
The diverse selection of musical talent mirrors the global diversity that not only until this time can be celebrated. This is an exploration in the bounty of creativity that can be generated by a common cause, focused on those things that are not only most meaningful to us but further, crucial to our very survival.
Hopefully the attention this major event will generate, create a true coming together of celebration of the heart and soul of music; wherever that resides in the individual. To this end, the people at Madison House and AEG live have partnered together with the goal to harness the unique energy of the live music community into a durable social movement toward an important cause: Climate Change and Clean Energy Alternatives. In addition to a diverse and stellar lineup of over 70 bands, Rothbury will host a Think Tank and Energy Fair, and features unprecedented audience participation opportunities.
Walt Whitman once said: "The genius of the United States is not best or most in its executives or legislatures, nor in its ambassadors or authors or colleges, or churches, or parlors, nor even in its newspapers or inventors, but always most in the common people." This is the premise which the Rothbury Think Tank is based on. The Think Tank is an event within the event offering various buzz sessions and roundtables between leading scientists, scholars, writers, progressive political and corporate leaders, youth leaders, entertainers and fans - will address the topic of Climate Change and Finding Energy Independence.
Curated by the Nobel Peace Prize winning climate scientist Dr. Stephen Schneider, Rothbury Think Tank participants/moderators include Time magazine's 2000 'Hero of the Planet' L. Hunter Lovins, etown hosts Nick and Helen Forster, Empowerment Institute founder David Gershon, founder of Cooler Inc. Michel Gelobter, Native American author and activist Winona LaDuke, organizer of Focus the Nation Dr. Eban Goodstein, and many more.
Panel topics range from climate change, to energy solutions fostering a revolution, to America demanding change from our political leaders and the media. While this segment of the festival offers promise for change on a global level, rivaling even this draw is that of the change offered by the 75 bands and musicians that are scheduled to be at the event. "music is the heart and soul of this event", and what a big heart this event must have.
Their list of confirmed talent includes: Dave Matthews Band, Widespread Panic, John Mayer, 311, Phil Lesh and Friends, Modest Mouse, Primus, Michael Franti and Spearhead, Thievery Corporation and STS9.
The four day, environmentally sustainable music and camping festival promises to be an inspiring cultural assembly; one where music fans, artists and progressive thinkers gather to celebrate much more than music. For more information, and for a full lineup please visit Rothburyfestival.com.

: uh, biggest festival ever? who wrote this? Lollapalooza, Coachella, and Bonnaroo all have or will have far more attendees. Ah, but they're not "events" about earth, you say?
wtf happened to live aid? did we forget about the biggest concert ever's purpose?
Rothbury is not the next evolution of US Music Festivals.

: Who gives a f*ck. Just another pile of pollitical bullshit. If you want to go to a real music festival, where it's all about music, food, beer, period- go to Summerfest in Milwaukee. 11 days, 700 bands, only $15 a day. Can't beat that. None of this "we're gonna change the world" sh*t.POSTED: 06/27/2008 - 12:50 pm / quote |

: i'd go just to see 311 and primus... did live aid actually help anyone after the show? i mean, i haven't seen any kind of statistics showing that it had an effect on anyone/anything. These festivals should stop "raising awareness" and put the money towards actually doing something to aid the cause. This is what happens when hippies try to work.POSTED: 06/27/2008 - 07:20 pm / quote |
