Alt-rock pioneer Perry Farrell's latest project, Satellite Party, is supporting its debut album with a major North American tour that will visit more than 40 clubs, theaters and radio shows.
The outing, which launched 08/08 in Cleveland, OH, is off to Canada this weekend and will then make its way from the eastern US to the West Coast through mid-October.
Satellite Party released its genre-bending debut, "
Ultra Payloaded," in May. The set, which was three years in the making, is a concept album focusing on global warming.
"We are a group that aims to do big things for the world in the next few years," Farrell told LiveDaily in an interview earlier this year. "Not just putting together events and parties and festivals, but also helping the world to stop global warming, put an end to global warming, which is a big task, but it's possible."
Guest artists on the record include Flea and John Frusciante of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, UK production duo and beat makers Hybrid, New Order/Joy Division bassist Peter Hook, downtempo pioneers Thievery Corporation, Porno for Pyros guitarist Peter DiStefano, Fergie, film composer Harry Gregson-Williams and a 30-piece orchestra.
A highlight of "Ultra Payloaded" is the closing song, "Woman in the Window," which features an unreleased vocal track from late Doors singer Jim Morrison.
"When you hear it, it sounds as though Jim Morrison were watching us and commenting on the world today," Farrell said in a statement. He used the song to tell of "a majestic, yet troubled Earth from the vantage point of an angel."
The full album is streaming at Satellite Party's MySpace page, as is the video for the lead single, "Wish Upon A Dogstar."
Satellite Party is Farrell's first musical endeavor in four years. The musician, who is the mastermind behind Jane's Addiction and Porno for Pyros, will also perform material from those bands during the upcoming tour, according to a press release.
