Australian alt-rockers Silverchair have mapped out their first North American tour since 1999 to support their recently released album, "Young Modern."
The trio will kick off the run July 13 in San Diego, the first stop on a 17-city headlining tour outlined below. The band will also hit the stage Aug. 4 at Chicago's Lollapalooza festival.
After the American dates, the group heads to Europe for a brief tour, details for which are posted at the band's website.
"Young Modern" is Silverchair's fifth studio album, and follows 2002's "Diorama." The album recently became the band's fifth consecutive No. 1 album in its native Australia, according to the group's publicist, a feat never accomplished by such Aussie icons as Midnight Oil, INXS and AC/DC.
Silverchair co-produced the album with longtime associate Nick Launay, and legendary Beach Boys collaborator Van Dyke Parks was brought in to pen orchestrations for three of the set's songs.
The new album "is all about acceptance," the band's frontman, Daniel Johns, said in a press release. "It's about embracing who we are as band and just really enjoying ourselves because that's all that really matters. Hopefully, listening to this album will make other people feel what we feel when we play these songs together because I've finally figured out that that's a very special feeling."
The video for the album's first single, "Straight Lines," is currently streaming at the band's MySpace page.

: What the heck, why did UG delete my one previous comment and the guy I was arguing with? It's not like we were calling eachother names and stuff we were just having a debatable argument. Oh well. Will I'm not going to get into details again, but the new silverchair song I heard kinda reminds me of an angels and airwaves song. I was really disappointed with it. It sounded like a song from the 3 letter genre that everyone hates on. When I first heard it, I couldn't even tell it was a silverchair song. They use to be one of my favourite bands but now I can't stand them. Sure Neon Ballroom and Diorama weren't too bad, not as good as frogstomp or freakshow, but they had a few good songs on them and they were trying new things to find their own sound. But I think their new stuff is horrible, this is like their st anger record. But I bet that most people who go to their concerts only expect to hear their earlier stuff but then they get disappointed with all of their newer stuff. POSTED: 06/12/2007 - 05:36 pm / quote |

: The amount of insults in the "other guy's" comment was unacceptable, and I deleted your comment because you quoted him. Nothing personal, just trying to keep the spamming to a minimum.POSTED: 06/12/2007 - 06:53 pm / quote |

: well u guys r gonna b very disappointed when u go to c Chair and expect them to do their old songs, cause guess what IT ISNT GONNA HAPPEN! Daniel has said countless times his SICK OF IT and refuses to play them cause his over them, and he himself realises that they were utter crap!
So if the person who wrote them knows they are bad and has moved on why cant any1 else?
Ive seen chair 3 times in the last 6 months, and they didnt play one song off Frogstomp! they played minimal Freakshow songs too, and they still have the PERFECT set list, i wouldnt have changed a song on any of them.
And if u were real chair fans u would respect Daniel for what he is doing to the pop rock genre, i mean look at all the other crap thats out there!
He breathes new hope into music with every album just when u think the whole industry is goin down the shitter, out he comes with another mid blowing masterpiece!POSTED: 06/12/2007 - 11:40 pm / quote |

Ok, I can respect them for trying new things and stuff. Nut I personally don't like the new stuff, I think it is horrible. Like their new stuff is so different that you can hardly tell it's silverchair unless someone tells you. I can tell a Nirvana or Zeppelin song is them when i hear it and they tried new and different things. But silverchair can't find a distinctive sound anymore. I think they should just change the band name if they are going for a complete different sound, cause the old fans will be disappointed with the new stuff and the new ones probably won't like the old stuff.POSTED: 06/13/2007 - 06:22 am / quote |

: each to their own, im a fan from way back and i really prefer the new stuff over the old grunge stuff.
Perhaps ive just grown out of all that stuff and have moved on, and i do like music full of sound and not just 3 instruments, theres soo much to their new music that it can paint a colourful picture in your head.
Its good that Silverchair are trying out different styles of music, i mean i dont want them to turn out like The Rolling Stones and just doing the same stuff over and over that it just gets boring and goes nowhere.
Also Daniel has another band The Dissociatives which is basically him and Paul Mac along with the Presets, and to describe it if you havent heard it would be a more watered down version of Young Modern, but with more emphasis on synthsPOSTED: 06/14/2007 - 03:23 am / quote |

Ok I respect your opinion, but I hated how you said their old grunge stuff lol. I hate it when people consider bands like STP, Bush and silverchair as grunge becasue they are not and most of those bands were around when grunge was dead. But ok, they do have grunge influences though. POSTED: 06/14/2007 - 03:12 pm / quote |
