Soundgarden May Perform At Sonisphere

According to Times 24, reformed rock band Soundgarden are rumoured for this year's Sonisphere Festival at Knebworth House. The Seattle grunge legends – contemporaries of Nirvana and Pearl Jam in the 90s – got back together on New Year's Day after a 12-year hiatus.

And this week's Nme says Chris Cornell and Co are talking to Sonisphere organisers.

Soundgarden are also rumoured for the touring festival on website efestivals.co.uk, along with Megadeth.

Best known for Grammy Award-winning single Black Hole Sun, the American quartet went their separate ways in 1997.

Lead singer Cornell later formed Audioslave and then embarked on a solo career, with mixed results.

However, his solo effort You Know My Name was used in the James Bond film Casino Royale, Daniel Craig's first outing as 007.

Cornell announced on January 1 that he was getting back together with lead guitarist Kim Thayil, drummer Matt Cameron and bassist Ben Shepherd and there would be a Soundgarden reunion this year, although no firm details of where they will be playing have been revealed yet.

Cameron is also the permanent drummer for alternative rockers Pearl Jam, who are playing Hard Rock Calling in London’s Hyde Park on June 25 and a string of dates across Europe in early July.

British heavy metal giants Iron Maiden and German band Rammstein have already been confirmed as headliners for the three-day Sonisphere Festival taking place within Knebworth's grounds from July 30 to August 1.

Others on the bill include the legendary Alice Cooper, who will close the Saturn stage on the Friday night, British alt-rockers Placebo, thrash metal acts Slayer and Anthrax, Papa Roach, The Cult, Mötley Crüe and Iggy & The Stooges.

Last year's inaugural Sonisphere Festival at Knebworth saw the likes of Metallica, Linkin Park, Nine Inch Nails, Heaven & Hell and Alice In Chains play before a total weekend audience of 80,000.

I could only imagine what any new soundgarden would sound like (haha puns), there's a lot of potential for something amazingly amazing but just as much potential to screw it up HARD. I have faith though.

If I hear timbaland making an appearence to let us all know how great he is, SOME MORE, I think I'll flip my chips. All of them.

Yeah, but at this point it has been more or less confirmed that the guys are in fact negotiating with several festivals, so in this case rumors are good, because they indicate that SOMETHING's going on

They haven't played together for a very, VERY long time and they're probably used to running their own agendas so at this point I'm guessing they need some serious time to prepare. So as far as these european festivals are concerned it's probably gonna be the later the likelier

I mean, perhaps it's too early to assume anything just because of 1 rumor, but the fact that this festival takes place AFTER Pearl Jam's summer tour (which so far ends on July 10th, and I don't see them adding many more dates since they held a similar summer tour 2 years ago which was also very short) may indicate that this is not gonna be a joint tour with PJ. That doesn't mean they can't overlap on some occasions, but I don't see Cameron taking on a double duties for many months

So if your favorite festival takes place in July or later, start crossing your fingers man (personally I'm hoping for a Werchter AND Lowlands appearance,that way I'd get to see them AT LEAST twice). If you were hoping to see them in May or early/mid June (your Pinkpop, your Rock Am Ring, perhaps even Glastonbury) don't get your hopes up high

And if you're American: I have absolutely no idea how the scheduling works in your country. There's still room for them to do a (small) US tour before the european summer festivals kick off, but you may in fact have to wait until the fall, and that's a long time...

Don't take my word for it -I'm just throwing some wild theories out there- though I must say me & my mates have become rather good at predicting this stuff... Except for one who was convinced there was gonna be a Pink Floyd 2006 summer tour. Boy was he disappointed

I like soundgarden, but its not enough, this years Sonisphere absolutely sucks balls compared to last years one. In Finland we get Him, yes thats right, Him as a headliner, you know who the other headliner is, ****ing iron maiden, which is the only band worth seeing from a long list of crap.

I hope they come to America. I read an interview with Chris Cornell about how he didn't get why all the b-sides and bonus tracks always got released to New Zealand and Europe when their target market is America. So Hopefully they'll tour. I'd like to see them try to bring in a bunch of unknown, but very good bands, sort of like the G'n'R SG and FNM tour.

so "according to" Times 24 they're "rumoured"... so this article is basically a rumour that Soundgarden are rumoured for Sonisphere.
