Taste Of Chaos 2007: The Warped Tour's Little Brother Makes Good |

Remember the days when the winter season was merely a waiting period before the summer’s most enticing concerts arrived? Thanks to Van’s Warped Tour mastermind Kevin Lyman, the masses can have their fix of rock even in the subzero temperatures.
Two years have past since Lyman unleashed the Rockstar Taste Of Chaos tour upon the world, and it’s rapidly gaining a reputation that rivals only its Warped predecessor. With dates already covered overseas in late 2006, it’s now time for the United States and Canada to get their own dose of cutting-edge rock. Granted, it doesn’t quite match the 100-plus band lineup of the Warped Tour, but for the price of the ticket (between $15 and $30) you’re still getting a lot more for your buck than the majority of concerts out there.
The Headliners
The tour kicked off Feb. 15 in Seattle, Wa., with a lineup that includes some familiar faces from the 2006 Warped Tour, along with a few MTV darlings. Here’s a rundown of this year’s headliners:
The Used
The band is no stranger to the annual event, headlining with My Chemical Romance back in 2005.
Their next album is tentatively scheduled for May, and audiences will likely get a taste of the new material at Taste of Chaos.
Before vocalist Bert McCracken had his supposed fallout (which may or may not be over) with My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way, they courageously covered “Under Pressure” (Queen and David Bowie) with impressive results.
30 Seconds To Mars
The band is possibly the biggest draw thanks to heavy rotation on MTV for the video “The Kill.”
Two new songs are making the rounds and will likely be played at Taste of Chaos: “Some Other Son/The Believer” and “Sisters of Heresy.”
Back when the band first formed, vocalist Jared Leto refused to use his fame as an actor on such shows like “My So-Called Life” to gain publicity for his band. Even if you don’t like the band, at least they started out with some integrity.
Senses Fail
They regularly feature fans’ photos taken at concerts in their band gallery page. The tradition will likely continue if fans bring out their cameras to Taste Of Chaos.
If you’ve got a creative side, check out the band’s website www.sensesfail.com. They recently announced that every week they will be holding a contest that draws on their fans’ creative skills.
Saosin
The debate over whether current vocalist Cove Reber lives up to original vocalist Anthony Green rages on. Check out their live show to see who is the eternal Saosin frontman.
Evaline
It was only about a month ago that drummer Steven Forrest announced that he was leaving the band. Taste of Chaos marks a big turning point for Evaline, and may shed light on who his permanent replacement will be.
Aiden
Regardless if you think the band is an AFI knockoff, the quintet has been touring at a feverish pace and will continue to do so over the summer. Their stage show has gotten stronger as a result.
Chiodos
If you’re looking for both an amusing and energetic stage show, look no further than Chiodos. The band is usually introduced by a costumed character (possibly the “Troll Master”), which is then followed by some classic fog effects and a manic crowd.
Battling To Be The Next Big Thing
If you didn’t get a chance to sign your band up for this year’s Ernie Ball Music Man Battle of the Bands, the deadline unfortunately was Jan. 31. Discouraging news aside, there are still quite a few lucky bands who may earn the coveted award of playing live in their hometown. The Ernie Ball-sponsored contest has actually been going strong since 1996 and has been used at many more festivals than just Kevin Lyman’s brainchildren. The contest is judged by fans in the first portion of it, so it’s possible that the battling bands might have more of the audience’s welcome than the headliners. The top 20 bands with the most votes then go on to be judged by an illustrious panel of judges that include Lyman and Ernie Ball CEO Sterling Ball.
Chaos’ Charitable Addition
The tour features an assortment of booths, ranging from retail-oriented goods to charitable organizations. One notable addition to this year’s Taste of Chaos is the Music Saves Lives booth, which is dedicated to registering new bone marrow donors under the age of 25 for cancer programs.
FAQs
Doors typically open around 5 to 5:30 p.m. and cameras are allowed, so long as they are non-professional. Some bands will do autograph signing sessions, so keep a watch out for these booths. : Actually the used would probably be quite a good live band, there's so much energy in their music, no matter what you think of it. I've been to see bands that I've never even heard of before (at Reading Festival) and it either enlightens you to new bands or shows you which bands you should avoid in future. And if you don't like the line up, why bother commenting?POSTED: 02/17/2007 - 11:34 am / quote |

: 30stm is a joke...when i saw them open for audioslave in 05 for the out of exile tour (sadly their last), they got booed off the stage or something and then they were doing a signing and there was about 8 people there...it was hilarious i was laughing my ass offPOSTED: 02/17/2007 - 11:40 am / quote |

: I'd go if I lived within a 100 miles of where it's happening. Saosin is pretty good even though they don't have Anthony Green, and Chiodos is a really good live band, and as much as I hate Aiden's music they sound completely different live and put on a great show. I don't know about the Used, and I saw Evaline a year ago and it was ok, it isn't really music that translates good live.POSTED: 02/17/2007 - 12:57 pm / quote |

: Didn't know that taste of chaos had anything to do with the warped tour I'm from the UK so correct me if I'm wrong but i always thought that the warped tour was a punk festival and that taste of chaos was more metalcore scremo and heavy rock. or at least it was the year that KSE played.
I'v not heard of hardly any of the bands on that lineup the Used are alright and I can't stand Aiden and that's about it.
the music saves lives sounds like a really worth wile coarse only I'm not a fan of needles POSTED: 02/18/2007 - 03:05 pm / quote |

emo means "emotional" now emotion means everything happy, angry, sad, excited, everything so why do people always say "ew there emo i dont like them " if you think about the way i use the term "emo " EVERY BAND IN THE F***ING WORLD would be emo i hate it when people use emo as a genre in the music world i consider these bands rock or alternative or mainstream (well not all chiodos half the people dont even know about which take note are a very good live band ) stop saying emo just means "slit my wrist im depressed" i cant stand it emo is even a f"""ing genre in my opinionPOSTED: 02/18/2007 - 03:33 pm / quote |
