Eclectic alt-rockers The Decemberists have mapped out a spring tour that kicks off March 21 with two nights at Jersey City, NJ's Loews Theater.
The itinerary also includes two nights at Chicago's Riviera Theatre, Boston's Avalon and San Francisco's Warfield Theater. My Brightest Diamond opens each show except April 4-6.
The Decemberists' latest album, "The Crane Wife," is based on a Japanese folk tale that's been handed down in countless variations and translations through the centuries. Songwriter and frontman Colin Meloy discovered it in a children's section of a local bookstore. The band -- which also includes multi-instrumentalist Chris Funk, keyboardist Jenny Conlee, bassist Nate Query and drummer John Moen -- has become known for its experimentation, pulling from styles as far flung as classic pop, klezmer, Irish jigs and prog rock.
The video for The Decemberists' latest single, "O Valencia" recently debuted on MTV2's "Subterranean."

: That was the sorriest exucuse for a solo I've ever seen. He stayed in the same position for most of it, was struggling just to tap a little, a repeated every cliche twice. And this guy is the lead guitarist? LamePOSTED: 01/24/2007 - 07:37 pm / quote |

: They might sell some tickets if they get Colbert in the band.POSTED: 01/24/2007 - 10:27 pm / quote |

: ok let me just say that HE'S A GUITARIST IN A FOLK/INDIE BAND, HE'S NOT SUPPOSED TO SHRED. The sooner you people learn that there are other genres than insane technical heavily distorted shred metal, the better. And their new album is a hell of a lot better than any Yngwie album, who bores me to tears. Yes, I get it, YOU CAN PLAY REALLY FAST! Play me something with substance and then we'll seePOSTED: 01/26/2007 - 01:16 pm / quote |

: Ah, bummer, looks like they played out California in December. :[ Wish they were coming back, cause I didn't get to see them last year...or the year before... ARGH.
And Wadeanes, if you want a gnarly solo, listen to the arpeggios and proggressive riffs in "The Island". Jenny Conlee ****ing owns the organ, and Chris Funk throws in some pretty sick guitar lines too. You might also like "the Tain."POSTED: 01/26/2007 - 03:25 pm / quote |
