Indie-rockers The National will hit a few large metropolitan areas this spring in support of their latest studio album, which is due in stores in May. The band, currently based in Brooklyn, follows an April 22-23 pair of shows in Richmond, VA, (appropriately set for the city's National Theater) with three West Coast performances, kicking off May 22 in Los Angeles. The outing moves to the opposite coast for a June 2 show in Boston before finishing June 16 at New York City's Radio City Music Hall. The band's still-untitled fifth studio album is due in May on the 4AD label. The group reported in December on its website that it was mixing the set in its new Brooklyn studio. "We actually built a recording studio in Brooklyn after 'Boxer,'" guitarist Bryce Dressner told Pitchfork.com last summer. "It's the first time we've ever had our own space, so we're just working our asses off trying to get that done. And we're kind of pinching ourselves because it seems like it's actually coming together." "Boxer," which surfaced in May of 2007, was the band's fourth studio album, and the follow-up to 2005's "Alligator," which marked the group's debut for the Beggars Banquet label.
