The Offspring have announced on their official website that they will not be coming to Australia later this month. The band states:
"Due to the cancellation of the Megaramage event in Melbourne, the Offspring's brief Australian tour has also been cancelled. Ticket refund information to come.
"The band apologize for any inconvenience to Offspring fans and hope to schedule new Australian dates in the near future."
The Offspring's latest album, "
Rise And Fall, Rage And Grace", is the first studio album in nearly five years and sold very well, due to the success of its single "
You're Gonna Go Far, Kid", which was successful on US rock radio stations, reaching the top of the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart. This is the third song by
The Offspring to hit #1 on that chart (the first being their signature song "Come Out And Play", followed by "Hit That"). It has also reach 28 on New Zealand top 40 music charts in 2 weeks.
The band recently completed work on their next studio album with producer Bob Rock (of Metallica fame), who also produced "Rise And Fall, Rage And Grace". Gutiarist Noodles said last June that the group would "like to have a new record out next year for sure" but isn't likely to hit the studio until January, after it finishes the touring cycle for "Rise And Fall..." And he doesn't expect the group to come up with new material on the road. "It's really hard to do that," Noodles notes. "It almost never happens."
