The Rolling Stones, Arctic Monkeys, Mumford and Sons to Headline Glastonbury Festival
Arctic Monkeys, The Rolling Stones and Mumford & Sons have been confirmed as headliners of this year's Glastonbury Festival. A post on the official Glastonbury festivals website appeared at 7pm today confirming the news. Of the Rolling Stones' slot, frontman Mick Jagger tweeted:
The much-desired Stones headline appearance was one of the worst-kept secrets in music. Speaking to MTV News (via NME) earlier this month, Serge Pizzorno who headlines Hard Rock Calling in London the same weekend said "I hope ours is the most talked about performance of the weekend, but that would be a miracle because The Rolling Stones are playing Glastonbury." Before that, various members of the band hinted they would be playing. Speaking to NME, frontman Mick Jagger teasingly asked what the weather would be like at the famously element-beaten bash. "There are other things in the world, you know, apart from Glastonbury," he said. "But then again, Glastonbury is very important. It seems to be very important to my children highlight of their year!" Guitarist Ronnie Wood has revealed that he is keen to play too. "Wouldn't it be nice?" he said when asked about the possibility by The Independent in February. He added: "We've got a meeting next month and that's going to be my first question to them. It's something I've always been interested in. I'm going to twist their arms. I've got lots of high hopes this year, now that we're all rehearsed - let's get it cracking this summer!"
