The Verve Comes To America

artist: verve date: 03/24/2008 category: upcoming tours

British pop-rockers The Verve are getting ready to launch their first North American tour in nearly a decade.

The reunited band will start with an April 23 show in San Francisco before moving on to Indio, CA's Coachella festival, as well as Las Vegas, New York City and Toronto, and will then spend the summer playing the festival circuit in Europe and Japan. North American dates are listed below and those overseas can be found at The Verve's MySpace page.

The quartet, known for its explosive live performances, will hit the stage with material from its forthcoming album, which is due this year, as well as b-sides and hit singles including "Bitter Sweet Symphony," "The Drugs Don't Work" and "Lucky Man."

The Verve's original lineup--Richard Ashcroft (lead vocals), Simon Jones (bass), Nick McCabe (guitar) and Peter Salisbury (drums)--reunited last year for its first UK shows since 1998. The initial comeback gigs in November sold out within 20 minutes, according to a press release.

The band broke big with its most recent release, 1997's "Urban Hymns," which reached No. 23 on The Billboard 200 and became the fifth fastest-selling British album ever, with 8 million copies sold worldwide, according to a statement. Last year, the set was honored with Q magazine's inaugural Classic Album award.

At the height of their success, the members of The Verve split in 1999, with reports blaming a tumultuous relationship between Ashcroft and McCabe. Ashcroft went on to forge a successful solo career, landing three albums on top or near the top of UK charts since 2000.

Tour dates are below:

04/23 - San Francisco, CA - The Warfield
04/25 - Indio, CA - Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival
04/26 - Las Vegas, NV - The Pearl Concert Theater at Palms Casino Resort
04/28-29 - New York, NY - WaMu Theatre at Madison Square Garden
05/01 - Toronto, Ontario - Ricoh Coliseum

I am here to inform you that if u had the chance to see the verve don't miss it one of the best bands to come out of britain and 'pop rockers' makes them sound crap they're aactually alot better than they are made out to be

Think of it this way the Beatles were Pop Rockers and they turned the world upside down, the Verve did the same to a smaller extent and they are absolutely no FOB , they are very dedicated musicians and have some of the best lyrics I have ever heard.

Awww come on, I like The Verve and FOB and you don't see me bashing them. Although I will say that The Verve is much better.

Urban Hymns was one of the best albums of the 90`s. I hope Ashcroft and McCabe can keep from killing one another long enough to do a UK tour.

the verve are not pop rockers their hits from urban hymns just undid what the verve are really about. ASIH and ANS are where its really at, not saying Urban Hymns was bad its great just not what they are about really thats why I cant wait for Mccabe's influence on this project

Seeing them at the Warfield, and I may just have to drop acid. I hope they play a lot of old stuff. And I hope the new stuff is more shoegazey than Urban Hymns, even though that is awesome.

that would be because your listening to Urban Hymns try all in the mind or gravity grave or something from the first two albumns other than on your own
