U2 Cancel Glastonbury And Postpone 16 Gigs

U2 have canceled their upcoming Glastonbury 2010 festival slot this summer and 16 gigs in the United States due to singer Bono's recent back surgery.

Festival organizer Michael Eavis made the announcement on the festival's website but didn't comment on who would be replacing the band in the headline slot.

"It was obvious from our telephone conversation that U2 are hugely disappointed," said Eavis. "At this point, we have no comment to make about possible replacements for U2's Friday night slot. Instead, we would simply like to send Bono our very best wishes for a full and speedy recovery."

Bono commented on the announcement stating his sorrow for the news.

"I'm heartbroken," he said. "We really wanted to be there to do something really special – we even wrote a song especially for the festival."

U2 were scheduled to headline Somerset on June 25 and have canceled all their gigs up to July 25. Media is already debating who will be replacing the band and so far names such as Coldplay, The Rolling Stones and Kasabian have been rumored.

i was so pumped to see them in East Lansing.. but lets hope for a quick recovery for bono. and as for the new dates, they'll be next year i bet because of the european tour beginning in august until october. of course they're not going to play shows in the winter so..

I hope Bono gets better. The North American dates are going to have to wait until next summer because the 360 tour is outdoors.

By the time they come around the U.S. again, they'll have new songs and new production. Thinking of working with them again. We'll see.
