Van Halen Tour Falls Apart

The Van Halen reunion could be falling apart at the seams, with 31 dates of their US tour being dropped from their website without any clear reason.

Fears are growing after Rolling Stone spoke to an insider who said "They hate each other. The band is arguing like mad. They’re fighting."

Live Nation, who promotes the tour, declined to comment on the cancellations, as did the band. One arena representative is quoted as saying "You want to know the absolute f--kin' truth? I have no f--kin' idea."

Some observers believe the tour isn't selling enough tickets, some of which cost up to $160, but others say it has been a success.

If you're a fan of the band and bought tickets to see them, don't fret - the Van Halen website says: "These dates have been postponed, not cancelled. Several shows on their 2007-2008 tour were postponed as well, and all were ultimately rescheduled."

Let me tell you, I enjoy van halen. But when I saw them on the last tour they did with sammy. It was the worst concert I've ever been to. The opening band, silvertide was amazing!!! Only good thing. They no longer exist. But van halen came out, it sounded bad, they kept pushing each other around stage fighting over who got to sing on the mic at parts, and eddie would be playing and all of a sudden you'd hear a bunch of bad notes and he'd pause before continuing to play. WORST CONCERT I'VE EVER BEEN TOO!!!! Eddie lost his tallent. And its sad to say this is the worst concert I've been to considering I've seen the earthquakers twice and I took a girlfriend to see Ryan Cabrera Twice. SOOOO BAD. Don't go, not worth the time or money. Van halen will only be preserved on album and never be like they once were.

In all seriousness, I don't like how Rolling Stone reports an unnamed insider says they are fighting and EVERYBODY ELSE is jumping on that. It's all coming from RS 1 unnamed source. I've heard other things like Ed has some issues that they are trying to plan best course of action, or that they are looking at going overseas instead, then coming back to the US.

Until we get a release from the band, nobody knows. And it ain't like VH has a history of timely news updates.

1. The dates are not cancelled, they are postponed. Anyone with a ticket to any of those shows knows this. Live Nation sent me an email saying hold onto the tickets because they will be good for the rescheduled date.

2. If anyone is dumb enough to believe Rolling Stone, they should be shot. This is the same magazine that ranked Eddie #70 and Kurt Cobain #12 in the Top 100 Guitarists list.

3. The postponed dates will be happening in October/November. The band is going overseas this summer.

I hear you, but you need to remember something -- these two (I'm assuming most of the friction is between Eddie and Dave) were arguable the biggest rockstars on Earth at one point and they still have the massive egos that came with that. Right now, the band has some of the best and most genuine on-stage chemistry I've ever seen, and all of them are constantly smiling ear-to-ear (Well...not Alex, he never smiles).You can't fake the kind of sincerity they all have on stage. Not to mention, if the band were tearing apart at the seams, they wouldn't cancel part of the tour, they'd cancel everything from here out or trek on through the tour and put on a half-assed show.

These postponments start right after the initial run of dates was to end. There is obviously some sort of logistical reason behind this. Websites and magazines need to stop publishing sensationalist articles like this.

I agree 100% I have seen them two times this year and each time they tore it up! They all seemed to get along quite nicely and looked happy to be playing on stage together. RS is just trying to start shit! All kinds of VH haters in that place! I think it is pretty apparent that DLR is having some health issues. Just watch the Downtown Sessions, which I love and would have rather seen them do a whole DVD of that than release this new album. Meh. Could be any reason for cancelling tour dates - doesn't necessarily mean a fight broke out.

I suspect it's just the band needing a break inbetween shows - understandable, but they could just be open about it.
Plus, tickets are 160 dollars. I don't think that's worth it, so I can understand if other people think the same. They probably dropped the venues that sold the least tickets.

Well I saw them last night, and it was an ok concert. The rythm was tight, the leads were great, and the solos were screaming. David Lee Roth has definitely lost his voice though. It wasn't as good as the records. All in all, I think the $68 I payed was a fair deal. I wouldn't go again though.

You realize that comparing EVH to Johnny Marr or Thurston More makes absolutely no sense, right? EVH's playing is based on some really energical hard rock, while Marr is towards post-punk and Moore towards noise/experimental. See the diference?
Also, Eddie's contribution to the guitar world is huge, he helped to develop things, especially when it comes to pickups or bridges. And if you didn't knew about that, I don't think you should be telling anyone to "learn about guitar".
