Velvet Revolver To Reunite With Scott Weiland Next Week

Slash may be busy on his next "solo" album, but Velvet Revolver are reuniting. It will be a one-off gig this month, with singer Scott Weiland and no other shows are planned.

The occasion is "Love You Madly: A Concert For John O'Brien" on Thursday, January 12 at the House of Blues in West Hollywood, California. Also scheduled to appear are Adam Levine and James Valentine (Maroon 5), Sheryl Crow, Tom Morello and Stephen Stills.

Of his time in Velvet Revolver, Weiland recently told The Pulse Of Radio: "That was right when I was getting off dope and those guys were all sober and clean, and I had a very special kind of kinship because we’d all experienced the same things ... It was a great band to see live, and I think we made two exciting albums."

"Love You Madly: A Concert For John O'Brien" pays tribute to award-winning ASCAP composer John O'Brien, who was found dead in his Chicago hotel room in August. He composed the music for "Nightwatch", "Iron Man" and many other movies and TV shows.

Cool stuff, it'd be cool to be there and see that.

But I think the idea of 'Velvet Revolver' has passed now. Slash has his solo album(s) and IMO that is leaps and bounds ahead of VR. Then there's Duff with Loaded, who're also pretty tight.

I don't expect VR to ever get a new singer.

I hope its not permanent, I mean they've gone through all this trouble, turned down GREAT singers, better than Scott... and just to reunite with him 3 odd years down the road? Really?

And yet, no matter how much I love each singer(ESPECIALLY Myles Kennedy) that has tackled a VR song in the interim, I can't help but miss Scott.

That's cool. I don't think they can replace Scott Weiland, either.

But I thought that the Scott Weiland songs might be the only stuff that Myles Kennedy sounds even worse singing than he does when he sings Axl Rose songs.

He's not bad, but his voice has no power or depth, at all.

They should make one more [good] album with Scott Weiland.

Libertad shouldn't be the kind of the you want to end that era with, even if they replace him. It had a few cool moments -- Don't Drop That Dime was my favorite -- but overall, it wasn't a very good album.

And I think there's more potential for quality Velvet Revolver material in the future than there is for quality STP material, not that the two have to be exclusive of each other.

I really do hope they reunite now however if this is truly just a one off gig they should get Michael Monroe for the new singer! Listen to Sensory Overdrive that is a kick-ass record!

Slash is usually busy with his solo stuff while Duff is usually busy with Loaded.

Scott Weiland must of realized that VR was a new band, with new material, and you didn't just have to be "that band with the old hits" like STP. Think about it, nobody is going to see Bush because of their new material. It's all about the songs that are actually played on the radio for all the years they were hot and all the years they were gone.

Libertad was not a bad album by any means. If you think that, you weren't really listening to it. However, I do think it was a bit of a bad note to end on with Scott after the success of Contraband.
