Weezer: Show Must Go On In Tornado-Hit Alabama
Rockers Weezer have refused to cancel a gig in Alabama after the state was hit by a series of tornadoes, vowing to bring "love and rock" to the area. Storms swept across six southern states over a 24-hour period, beginning on Wednesday (27Apr11), and the worst damage occurred in Alabama, where over 200 people perished. But the "Buddy Holly" hitmakers were determined to make the trip to Birmingham, where they are due to play a concert at the Schaeffer Eye Center Crawfish Boil on Friday (29Apr11). In a post on his Twitter page, Weezer bassist Scott Shriner writes, "Man my heart goes out to the family's (sic) in Birmingham. Can't believe we're going there. Alright, time to bring the love and the rock." "My heart and prayers go out to the people and family's (sic) that have suffered injury and loss in Tuscaloosa (in Alabama). Sending love." Meanwhile frontman Rivers Cuomo appeared nervous about venturing into the hardest-hit state, 'Tweeting' on Thursday (28 Apr 11): "Boarding a plane 4 Alabama. Said goodbye 2 my family." Thanks for the report to ContactMusic.com.
