Will There Be An Ozzfest In 2011?

The Pulse Of Radio reports: Will there be an Ozzfest in 2011? The venerable heavy rock and metal festival, started in 1997 by Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, has gone through a number of changes over the last few years as a result of economic woes and more competition from events like the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem and Uproar festivals. Now for the second time in four years, it's not clear whether Ozzfest will take place at all this summer. No bands have been confirmed, no dates have been set, and there has not even been word on any kind of announcement about either.

Vulgar Display Of Blog reported that the band page at Ozzfest.com is now blank, although it stated until recently "Ozzfest 2011 Bands Coming Soon". A post in the site's fan forums asking fans to suggest bands has also been taken down.

Last year's Ozzfest was a short, six-date run that featured Ozzy, Mötley Crüe, Halford, Devildriver and Nonpoint.

There was no Ozzfest in 2009, while the 2008 edition was a one-day "destination" event in Dallas, Texas, starring Ozzy, Metallica, Apocalyptica, Korn's Jonathan Davis and more.

Even with a still-sluggish economy, the summer festival schedule is packed with events and tours like Mayhem, Uproar, Lollapalooza, the Mötley Crüe/Poison and Rob Zombie/Slayer double bills, and others.

Ozzy and Sharon let these other tours get the best of them. Bad decisions and terrible lineups mixed with green sank that ship. I love Ozzfest and will miss it!

I agree with this. Even if Ozzfest was just a handful of shows this year, having them coincide with a North American Big Four tour would be, for lack of a better word, monstrous.

Besides, everyone knows that a Black Sabbath Farewell Tour would be way better than another shit line-up from Ozzfest

That isn't up to Metallica. Thats a festival they are headlining. They don't care, know or need to know/care who the other bands are.

In regards to Ozzfest, it's been done for a while. It was free a few years ago, but even then it was ok at best. Until he is able to get his shit together and put on a REAL show, he should just take a bit of a break.

Totally agree, Ozzy, Priest, and Sabbath are on the way out...they had amazing careers and gave us some awesome music. The Big Four is reviving metal in a large way. A lot of people bitch about Metallica for selling out, I think that's a stupid thing to say for a number of reasons. One, they made metal a legitimate genre. They made metal that could appeal to the masses and gave metal a band that could headline a festival like this. Metallica's one of the biggest bands on the planet, and I'm sure MegaDave, Jr, Bello, Ian, and the guys from Slayer would like to play a couple of summer festivals and have a little money in the bank for their retirement.

Maybe not this summer, but the Big Four should have a traveling festival like OzzFest next summer and try to get a few younger metal bands to eventually take over the reigns when The Big Four hangs it up.

Probably not for this year, summer's a month away and it would be a logistical nightmare to get four bands with pretty full schedules on a summer tour together. Next summer? Hell yeah. It'd be great to see. I just hope they have an opening band for the Big Four that may eventually step up as a huge metal band.

How about not filling the bill with ___core bands. Have a tour with crap bands expect crap attendence the saving grace of mayhem is megadeth. I think the touring metal festivals days are done here in america because promotors dont put any thought into how to make a decent festval.

Correction. Metallica is playing a festival in Halifax with Matt Mays, Seether, Protest the Hero and Coheed & Cambria opening. WORTH IT!

I honestly don't think it's the "core" bands that are ruining metal, but rather all these alternative rock/post-grunge bands that end up playing the same festival. Like Download festival this year. Buckcherry? Linkin Park? The Gaslight Anthem, Bowling for Soup? Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not a huge fan of "core" bands. Not because of the name, it just happens that I don't like most. However, I'd much rather see a band like Trivium or Killswitch Engage open up for Metallica then a band like mother****ing bowling for soup.

Yes, but you seem to have forgotten the target audience for those festivals. Sonisphere and Download are predominately aimed at 13 to around 18 - 21 year olds who will listen to anything remotely heavy. You also have to remember the kind of bands affiliated magazines cover, which no doubt has an affect on their lineup.

This is why at download in particular you see the same half-baked or over the hill bands. Because the readers (and in turn the attendees of the festivals) generally buy into them.

While I do partly agree with your comment about having relative bands together, I think it's more to do with pressure from media outlets like Scuzz and Kerrang! for example that over time shit out a good festival.

There's some pretty good 'core' bands out there, like Killswitch Engage, Trivium (kinda), August Burns Red and All That Remains, but festival organizers have to stop putting bands like Asking Alexandria and I See Stars that all share the same recycled riffs and breakdowns.
