Alter Bridge features the three out of the four members of Creed, with the notable exception of singer Scott Stapp. The band's sound is completely different, but so is the attitude of the band and the demands and pressures of the business.
Guitarist Mark Tremonti talked about the lessons learned from being in the machine that was Creed.
Mark Tremonti On Creed Lessons
"Not taking yourselves way too seriously, just doing it to have fun and not worrying about every little detail. You don't have to get to the point where you have to ask sixteen people to get something done. Back in the Creed days if you needed a simple decision to be made it took you three weeks. The system just broke down. We keep it all just for fun. We've been there. If it ever turns into that business again...That's not why we're doing this, so if that happens we'll fix it a soon as happens."
The band's initial tour in support of their new album, Blackbird, took place with Another Animal. That band is comprised of the members of Godsmack minus Sully Erna. Tremonti was asked if there was levity about the tour being away from such platinum selling bands and the logistical headaches they entail.
Mark Tremonti On Alterbridge And Another Animal Big Band Shadow
"I think both bands turned into big business, and everything starts to get real uptight and decisions have to be made by fifteen different people, the machine starts to break down after a while. Alter Bridge, no matter what success we have we never want that to happen. We already have been there and we know the signs to look out for. When success comes so does stress and so does... financially things can get screwed up."
Another Animal is fronted by Whitfield Crane, former bandmate of drummer Shannon Larkin in Ugly Kid Joe, who had a hit in the '90s with "I Hate Everything About You."
Meanwhile, Alter Bridge is touring through December 9, where they wrap up as part of Kansas City radio's KQRC Twisted Christmas show.
