The Black Crowes have released their highly anticipated first album together since 2001 and the album, titled "Warpaint" debuted at #5 on The Billboard Top 200 Chart. "Warpaint," which was produced by Paul Stacey at Allaire Studios at the foot of the Catskills in upstate New York, signals brothers Chris and Rich Robinson returning to their songwriting roots and what made the band such a seminal Rock N Roll force, resulting in a body of work with sales of 20 million albums worldwide. The Black Crowes perhaps prematurely, parted ways in 2001 after the release of "Lions" and it was widely publicized that both Chris and Rich definitely needed some time apart after a tumultuous recording experience and final tour.
In an earlier interview, we spoke to Chris Robinson to get his thoughts on songwriting with his brother Rich once again after almost seven years apart.
With Time Black Crowes A Little Less Bipolar
"Like everything else, life is only balance. There's only good and bad and there's only light and dark and you can't do anything without recognizing the other. You know with experience and with time comes being able to breathe in and breathe out and be a little more...a little less bipolar."
For "Warpaint" The Black Crowes also added guitarist Luther Dickinson, best known for his work in the North Mississippi All-Stars, and shining throughout the album is his ability to fit in seamlessly with Rich's guitar and the voice of Chris Robinson. Dickinson not only contributed to the recording but he also joins the The Black Crowes touring band as well. Chris also talked about expecting more from his band mates and why it's so important for him to be a creative entity.
Creativity Is Important To Chris Robinson
"We definitely expected more from everyone also, like 'Isn't everyone in on the revolution? You know what I mean? Doesn't everybody want to feel free?' Sometimes people just want to come hear your music, you know. And as a young kid it takes awhile, my belief system is my belief system. I feel, in the sense of I've always felt the same way about music, you know. It represents freedom. To be able to live my life as a creative entity is important."

: They're borderline rock at best. Only 2 songs anyone knows is a ballad and a cover. Im glad they shoved it in Maxims face cause thats they only way they got any publicity to sell this record.POSTED: 03/20/2008 - 12:35 pm / quote |

: They are great. Southern Harmony is still one of my all time favourites. Amorica is brilliant. I saw them in 93 and they know their music seriously- the PA had Little Feat on non-stop before they came on and their set was filled with lengthy jammed out numbers. Great ethos. And ethos is what they're about.
Love them. Pure guitar music and the ideal band to be in. Can't wait to get the album. Still harbour optimism, but worried about Ed Hirsch's absence.POSTED: 03/20/2008 - 01:57 pm / quote |

Neither of the two recent keyboard players have proven themselves to be capable of filling Ed's shoes.

I do love real guitar music thats why I don't listen to little southern wannabes.. really listen to the album... you can't possibly say that its good, just a bunch of wannabe jimmy page and eric clapton riffs blended into one neverending song. Real guitar based rock stay with the likes of Matt Bellamy of Muse and Johnny Greenwood of Radiohead....so how bout that bitch lol!!!POSTED: 03/20/2008 - 05:48 pm / quote |

: One day you wankers that bash Matt Bellamy and Johnny Greenwood will one day realize that real music isn't consisted of just power chords and the same boring pentatonic scales the all the modern american bands play... rather it should be made up of a blend of different genres to make unique sounds and chord structures. Not the same repetitive bull shit you here from a7x, nickleback, green day so on and so forth. People that like this stuff also think that classical music sucks. Yet any band that has any talent has been influenced in some way by classical. IE Between the buried and me... kind of an insane guitar based group to say the least. So next time you bash great musicians know what your saying so you don't show your ignorance and run off with your tail between ur legs.POSTED: 03/20/2008 - 10:07 pm / quote |

: They didn't say that Matt and johnny were poor musicians, just that they did not represent guitar-based rock as well as the crowes.
Of course, by saying that Matt and Johnny DID better represent guitar based rock... well, then they aren't really doing that good a job of mixing genres, are they?

WTF don't do a good job of mixing genres and Crowes rule ar guitar based rock... have you ever listened to muse and radiohead and other bands like that... every song is unique in its own element. Like I said before you hear one cros song you've heard them all. And come on the guitarist from black crows is borderline at best.POSTED: 03/21/2008 - 10:33 am / quote |

Well if that is supposed to emply that Muse and Radiohead overproduces their music then you have obviously never scene them live. They both can put any other band to shame nowadays. The crowes music sounds what you call authentic because of their lack of creativity.POSTED: 03/21/2008 - 05:59 pm / quote |
