Bon Jovi The New Boss Of Touring

Bon Jovi is the top grossing tour of 2008 earning over $210 million. The band played to an estimated 1.2 million people on tour. Fellow New Jersey native Bruce Springsteen came in just 6 million dollars behind Bon Jovi followed by Madonna, The Police, and Celine Dion.

Bon Jovi started the tour in support of their album in Newark and Jon Bon Jovi talked in a previous interview about opening the Prudential Center in New Jersey.

"The arena here and bringing the [Hockey franchise New Jersey] Devils here to Newark is huge. It's huge for the city. I think there's a huge commitment especially by ownership group of the Devils and the local government, especially the mayor's office, to do anything in its power to revitalize Newark. This is our contribution to revitalizing its economy, telling people it's OK to come and to try out the new venue. So I took a leap of faith like the Devils and came into Newark with the hope that we can all lend a hand."

Others rounding out the top 10 touring acts were Kenny Chesney with $86 million at Number Six, Neil Diamond earning $81.2 million at Number Seven, Spice Girls grossing $70 million at Number Eight, Eagles with $56.6 million at Number Nine and Rascal Flatts with $55.8 million at Number Ten.

Bon Jovi is good, grats to him, but his concerts arent exatcly affordable. I wanted to go, i looked at average seats they were hittin around $300. I went to look at the Nosebleeds, and they were hoverin around $150. So nice that he made $210 mill. But sadly the tickets are insanely pricey for just a Bon Jovi

1) bon Jovi is a band not just a guy.
2) I got my ticket for about £45 standing.

To whomever said Sprinsteen > Bon Jovi,
you must enjoy the most boring music in the world - I can't stand Springsteen for more than two minutes. It's monotonous pride garbage. Bon Jovi at least does some experimentation, good on them for getting big. Too bad I never had an opportunity to see him, but that's alright.

What are you talking about?

-Bon Jovi had to fire their bassplayer because he was sucking so badly.
-Metallica aren't anything-core
-The best musicians are either one-man-bands or brokeass trumpet players who get paid in beer or something
-Usually it's Madonna topping thes lists

Fixed. There best work came in the form of Keep The Faith and These Days IMO. When they released Crush in 2000 it marked the end of an era for them. They had lost alot of soul and what made them them, still good albums but never really the same, Lost Highway had some good heartfelt stuff on it with some good solos I felt though.

He was still a talented bass player, he just went completely off the rails, his attitude had more to do with him being fired than his skills. He started turning up to shows drunk which caused him to make alot of very obvious mistakes when the rest of the band were really tight and felt he was better than the band and didn't wanna work with them anymore. Shame really but Hugh is pretty good as a replacement.

Agreed, I saw Bruce twice this year, and both times were amazing. Plus tickets were only around 100 dollars each time for very good seats. Makes you wonder how much more he would have made than Bon Jovi had they charged the same amount.

NO ONE can bust on Springsteen until they have seen him live, he is completely amazing. Bon Jovi is not as good as The Boss but Bon Jovi is still quite amazing. Both bands are worth being at the top of the list.

Im from NJ and I do have to say I don't really like Bon Jovi. I like a lot of the artist from NJ but not him.

I will say congrats to him for coming out on top even though I dont like him I will say that he proved me wrong about people liking him lol

everyone here seems to be bashing there revenue saying its based on the high ticket prices, all I know is they sold out the ACC here in Toronto 4 nights in a row setting a new record. If they were cheaper tickets they probably could have done 5 or 6 nights. So I dont think the high ticket prices are the reason for there finical success

dude metallica has been on tour for what 3 months tops bon jovi's toured for all of 08 not really a fair comparison

i saw these guys in sydney back in january. it was the third time i've seen them in australia and they are unbelievable in concert. i know you shouldnt compare bands, but i've seen gnr and a few other bands but i must say that for entertainment value, bon jovi are much better. i know the band is getting on in age, but if you are still able to sell out stadiums after 20+ years you must be doing something right.

metallica didnt even have a large tour this year
they were too buisy with their new album that went multi-platinum in less than four weeks

I've seen every big name band in the world live, Stones, Springsteen, Metallica, ACDC, Aerosmith, on and on. Bon Jovi put on the best (and I"ve seen them several times) concert I've ever seen. Well worth any price they asked. And I've never paid more than $100 for a great seat. I don't know what the one poster is complaining about. That's the going rate for big bands, get out more often dude! Bon Jovi has sold well over 110 million CD's, they are still very popular people.

bon jovi tickets aren't expensive, at least not here in the uk. They are really the norm price.
