Change Important To 30 Seconds To Mars On Upcoming Album

After the sophomore album from 30 Seconds to Mars, "A Beautiful Lie" spawned the hit singles "The Kill" and "From Yesterday" the band has started pre production on their highly anticipated third album. The album, which has no title or release date as of yet will once again see brothers Shannon and Jared Leto and guitarist Tomo Milicevic try to build upon the world wide critical acclaim of their last album.

We caught up with drummer Shannon Leto at the 2008 Guitar Center Drum Off to get an update on where the band is the recording stage.

30 Seconds To Mars Start Song Writing For New Album

"We are actually doing pre production. I've recorded a bunch of beats, some guitar parts. My brother has probably written twenty or thirty songs already. We're going to go tour England and part of Europe right now, come back, record about five songs and see what happens."

We also talked with Shannon about the importance of growing and evolving as songwriters.

30 Seconds To Mars Always Going To Evolve As Songwriters

"We're always going to change, always going to grow, always going to evolve so it's going to sound different from the last album. We always want to change. That's important to us, so."

30 Seconds to Mars will be staring their European tour in Newcastle, U.K. Jan 24th with dates extending until Feb 15th in Lisbon. It was recently announced at the end of 2007 that 30 Seconds To Mars won the Fuse Best of 2007 Award, with over 7 million votes. Look for the band to get back into the studio after their European tour to begin the recording process for the next album.

I only realised like a week ago the lead singer was LEto. I saw the trailer for REquiem after being told about it, couldn't sleep for a night just because it made me feel so weird...not scared but w/e.

Why should he just limit himself to acting if he likes to play music? There's no reason why he can't do both, and he's good at it so leave him be. I have no problem with the band, but we'll see how well this album turns out.

Wow you gotta be kidding. Their two albums have no similarities what so ever. The first album was spacey hard rock and the second one was alternative. But yeah, I'm glad that they are finally working on a new record, since they've been touring for almost 3 years on the same album.

Yeah their last one was pretty good. I just couldn't appreciate the 11 minutes of dead silence though followed by another couple of seconds of a mini song in their last album

I really like 30STM. Several of the songs off A Beautiful Lie couldve been singles. The video for From Yesterday was awesome, Jared can do some awesome stuff. Great singer as well. I hope they dont sell out or get poppy on us tho.

Dude, 30STM is an awesome band. Leto has a great voice I think. He totally transformed his voice from the first to second album, he screams alot more and uses higher octaves in the second one.

Yeah guys it really is emo. ALthough their music is really good. Didn't like the first album that much, second one was awesome though. I love the song "Hunter" I really like how space- related this band is, I love astronoy and good music so naturally I really like this band. I saw 30 STM at the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney. They were possibly the best live band i had seen.
And besides, even at times when his voice worsened (last 2 songs) he still had the charisma to pull off a great show

it will be interesting to see who the new bassist is. I agree with the people who say thet aren't emo and that the music is pretty decent. I also agree that the long videos really need longer songs. If you a seven minute video you should have a seven minute song. Say something like MIA by A7X for example.
