Guitar master Joe Satriani burst onto the global musical scene in 1987 with the release of his second album "Surfing With The Alien" and the album, which went platinum in The U.S. alone, showcased Satriani's musicianship, song writing ability and producing skills. Always known for his amazing instrumentals many wondered what Joe Satriani would be like in a more performing with a lead vocalist in a more commercial sounding band. So after being invited to jam in Las Vegas with Sammy Haggar and Michael Anthony formerly of Van Halen and Chad Smith, drummer for The Red Hot Chili Peppers, things went so well they decided to get in the studio and see if they could write songs together as Chickenfoot.
Artisan News caught up with Joe Satriani to get his thoughts on forming Chickenfoot after their first show together in Las Vegas.
"So I grabbed my guitar and got on a plane to Las Vegas and I jammed with these guys and it was so good we said 'Hey let's see if we can write songs together.' So Sammy and I got together and we wrote some songs and Chad and Mike came over and they went 'Hey those are pretty good. Let's do them like this instead.' So we started recording them. That's kind of how we did the record for the next ten months, just doing that over and over again and it just got better and better and better."
In his younger days Joe Satriani was a guitar teacher for players such as Kirk Hammett (Metallica), Larry LaLonde (Primus), and Charlie Hunter, among many others. Chickenfoot have announced world tour dates which start in Europe beginning June 2th in Austria and extending until July 12th in The Netherlands. Chickenfoot will then head back to North America with dates beginning August 2nd in Canada and finishing up September 5th in Lake Tahoe, NV.

: My roommate got the cd recently and man I gotta tell you, it really shocked me how good it was. At first I thought it would be like a Van Halen carbon copy but you can tell everybody had some input. The style is amazing, it can go from some real funky rhythms and riffs into a great solo that has a dark tone, this heavy rock edge I didn't expect. I'm not a big fan of virtuoso guitarists (not their music at least, I appreciate their skills and their instructional videos lol) but Joe is not that in this cd at all. He's just a damn good guitarist in a damn good band. Not to mention Chad does a great job on this cd too, you will absolutely hear his influence in a lot of the songsPOSTED: 06/15/2009 - 03:51 pm / quote |

: I doubt wether those people who criticise them have actually listened to the album; saying that they're boring and mediocre or just copying someone else's comment is pathetic. It's also a bit short-sighted since musical taste is highly subjective, what isn't subjective is the technical virtuosity of Satch and Chad. Hagaer's doin' a fine job on the album, same as Michael Anthony. I love the album and the creativity in the songs, you can feel the chemistry. But hey that's my opinion, create your own one.POSTED: 06/16/2009 - 04:52 am / quote |

: Its because short sighted Satch fans expect this album to be The Extremist but with vocals. They don't seem to understand that maybe he wants to take more of a collaborative role in the songwriting/making process, he said himself that he wanted to be part of a band, and it just happens to be at a time when Van Halen & Chili Pepper fans have nothing going on at the moment, so seems like a good time to me.
People are way too critical of the album. Chickenfoot's a bad name, songs have bad names, this is bad, thats bad...
Some other bands have shit names. Megadeath sounds crap. When you really think about it, "Red Hot Chili Peppers" sounds kinda lame - its only because they've made names for themselves does it seem okay to fans. POSTED: 06/16/2009 - 09:10 am / quote |
