Chiodos is hard at work recording their new effort titled Bone Palace Ballet, according to the band's website. The new effort will be an evolution for the group, delving more into the metal part of their musical sensibilities.
We caught up with drummer Derrick Frost who talked about the direction of the new album.

"I think the approach that is different about it is the fact that we're taking the time to record demos. Then we'll listen to them a while and we're like, 'OK, I don't like this, I like this...' The way we structure things is the same way, but other than that just taking more time on it, and especially since we haven't written anything in two years it's nice to refresh why you play music. It's good to write new stuff. There's so many ideas flowing that you don't know what to use and what not to use. So I think for a more epic feel, and a more spacey in-your face feel as well too. That's where we're at right now with this album I think. It constantly keeps changing."
Frost also talked about playing metal as a drummer.
Watch video: Derrick Frost Of Chiodos Describes Heavier Musicality
"Very spacey, but yet like Heavy Metalish. Not heavy metal, but heavy metal parts. Oh my god that sounds bad, but however way you put it together, but that's more of who we are as people. So that's basically more epic, more spacey, harder, softer. We've basically been working on a rock opera song, and it's like...Have you ever heard Children Of Bodom? You know how they have the dueling keyboard and guitarist? That's what we're kind of getting on this one song we're working on right now. The rhythm, the bass and the drums are doing downbeat notes with fills in between, but the keyboards and guitars are just doing the craziest things."
Chiodos will be returning to the road this summer as part of the Warped Tour starting June 29 at the Pomona Fairgrounds in Pomona, California.

Shut up dude. You know that's just going to be removed.
Anyway, I like Chiodos. They're good at what they do. The vocals are pretty annoying sometimes, but I don't mind it too much.POSTED: 04/19/2007 - 05:11 pm / quote |

If you read the article he only said that they're trying out a concept that Children of Bodom uses, not that they're doing CoB stuff.

: chiodos are pretty good...me being a fairly "metal" guy this album will hopefully appeal to me a lot more... where he says that the guitars are doing the craziest stuff, thats good coz it will be more harder riffs and delging away from the punkish riffs....i have a shirt POSTED: 04/19/2007 - 08:56 pm / quote |

i don't know what is up this guys ass but he has some problems or something. chiodos are actually a very talented group of musicians. they don't just sit there and strum power chords to 4/4 beat like most bands in their genre. plus they are creative and make there music sound different. i would like to see this guy up there do any better. How do they sound like PTH? Chiodos is more screamo.. it's kinda lighter.. PTH is more like metal.. plus PTH's lead singer doesn't sing an octave higher than everybody else.. :P (i'm not saying it's bad, i'm saying they don't sound that much the same...)POSTED: 04/26/2007 - 02:05 am / quote |

: Dude i dont know what these quote, unquote metal guys problems are but, shut up!None of us care what your definition of metal is,so what if you don't like Craig's vocals go bitch to your little metals friends and maybe why your there you can have a gay little circle jerk
while listening to your so called bullshit excuse for metal.Chiodos is amazing plain and simply don't like it

: In their new song up on myspace, there are a lot of 16th notes, and I don't think it is crazy technical but if you listen to it, you can understand what Frost is saying. And in the other interviews with the guitarist he says that he really likes CoB and Dragonforce etc. So I think he is just influenced by metal bands but like every other original musician they just use influences to show their personality while doing other things. I'm not here to argue about the band, just listen to the song.POSTED: 06/24/2007 - 03:11 pm / quote |

: if u people dont like chiodos, stop posting comments, simple as that
i think craigs vocals are a breath of freshair, he doesnt sound like anybody, and thats good
i also like thefact that chiodos doesnt stick to specific type of song stucture
i dont really think u can even compare chiodos to anybodyPOSTED: 08/06/2007 - 08:56 pm / quote |

: lol. . . i dont know why people think he's comparing them to metal. I guess alotta people cant comprehend simple text. He's just talking about the concept and style that children of bodom uses. And Jason Hale can play decently well. I've seen some videos of him sweeping on his SG and also doing some sweep tapping thing. . .POSTED: 10/28/2007 - 08:25 am / quote |
