Daughtry Savior Of Mainstream Rock?

Rock has taken a back seat to pop, Hip-Hop, and R&B on the Top 40 chart in the last few years with very rare exceptions. Chris Daughtry has scored several cross-over hits, and it hasn't affected his status as a staple of modern and active rock radio stations. Some have even gone as far to say that Daughtry, whose debut album has now sold three million, is rocks saving grace.

We asked the former American Idol contestant what he thinks of being a savior for mainstream rock.

Daughtry On Bringing Attention To Rock

"I don't even know what rock is lacking. I think it's lacking attention. I think that's the biggest thing it's lacking. If I brought any kind of attention to it, that's a pretty amazing thing, and I'm proud of it."

Meanwhile, Daughtry is in the process of booking his summer schedule. His dates will kick off August 9 in Indianapolis at the Indiana State Fair, and he's doing several fairs this summer including New York (in Syracuse), Allentown, and York, Pennsylvania.

Wait, what? When I hear Daughtry I can understand what they intended with all the distorted guitar and stuff, but never really comes across as rock'n'roll. Kind of like Nickelback. Saviour of rock my ass.

Daughtry is pop. American Another American Idol poser... My dad and I joke about Daughtry(not)being rock all the time.

well it does say mainstream rock which is pop basically....I hate mainstream rock. But Daughtry and Rock doesn't go together in my opinion.

Personally I don't think they're that talented, but anything that bumps all of that hip-hop, rap, and R&B shit off of the charts is a plus in my book.

If this is real, I don't consider him to be the saviour of mainstream rock. If anything, he is what is wrong with it.

yeah, well Muse and Wolfmother both suck major ass. Muse is just shitty electric music and Wolfmother is a wannabe Led Zeppelin (who are overrated as it is). I don't really like any of his music but I think daughtry is really talented, but producers will never let him be too rock, they want him to be a top 40 juggernaut. These days anything with guitar, bass, and drums is rock, stupid shit like fall out boy and gym glass heroes, that's not rock.

You say muse and wolfmother suck but you listen to fall out boy? Do you know what irony is?
And people who say wolfmother sound like led zeppelin probably only heard their song woman. If you listen to their whole album you will find that they don't sound like zeppelin at all except for that one song. And in the song the only thing that makes them sound like zeppelin is the singing. I don't hear any jimmy page guitar solos or Bonham drumming when I listen to them.

Chris Daughtry is a nice guy and very talented. Some of you may think it's cool to diss him and his band, but they are very good, they are successful, and they offer what millions of people want right now. You may not be among them, so go ahead and feel left out, but let the rest of us have a little joy for a change. At least he's no Taylor Hicks loser doofus. And by the way, Taylor Hicks has crazy fans who go around posting comments exactly like some of the ones here. Jealousy is an open wound with pus and worms oozing out of it, and I recognize their stench.

fall out boy? that is kinda poppy. They are like a boyband. any and everything is considered rock today.

Well, i'm not the biggest fan Daughtry. I like what he has done and everything but there are plenty of bands that have done a fair contribution to keepin rock alive. But i definitely wouldn't consider Daughtry a savior by any means
