To be honest I haven't heard any songs by them other than Epic. That being said, the first time I heard it, it blew my mind. I was asking myself "Is this some prime-evil RHCP from the 80's?" or "What genre...is this....awesome....thing?"

It would be cool to hear more from these guys.

Atreyu cover is the same musically, but instead of rapping, Alex yells all the words.

But it's not like their Bon Jovi cover... he yells and still maintains the rap feel to it. It's funny. I like it!

some of their songs are definitely funk metal: falling to pieces, epic, from out of nowhere etc. but yes most of their music is not funk metal

Mike Patton = Modern Day Jesus Christ

He has so many amazing credits to his name aside from Faith No More too. If anyone hasn't heard of them definetly check out Tomahawk, Mr. Bungle or Peeping Tom.

Not too mention the fact he was in Dillenger Escape Plan for a while too. The song "When Good Dogs Do Bad Things" is one of Dillengers best.

Why do some people feel the need to confine bands to certain genres?

Faith No More had no genre, they were what they were, and what they were was amazing.

ya beat me 2 it. rv, edge of the world, real thing, and slowly growing deaf (mr bungle) rule over anything the chilis have done. not that i don't like (old) RHCP. but Mike Patton defines experimental.

okay the new chilis stuff has lost most of the classic funk sound that they had, but if you listen to their 1st four albums (self titled, freaky styley, uplift, and mothers milk) that is some awesome funk/rap rock whatver you want to call it. They're 'overrated' because they're all over the radio from stadium arcadium still (at least in the NY area) and evryone claims to be a fan but really don't know anything past the new album.
POSTED: 01/18/2008 - 07:27 pm / quote |
RoshanC :
I used to like the chilis, and own every album but i find their new stuff bland and generic. I agree that the earlier stuff, especially freaky styley, is definitely the most interesting, because they were covering new ground and exploring. I also like One Hot Minute, which is underrated and had a great mixture of herd rock and funk. It was the chili's last funky album, and they seem to have abandoned the funk for a mainstream generic rock sound, with little experimentation, even on a double album, which was incredibly disappointing

ha love3 faith no more, but i thought throughout their entire career each band member absolutely hated each other and got into fights with one another. oh well, i guess its good news im guessing if they do come back together it'll be a comeback tour not a new album or anything, my fingers will be crossed for them to come to australia
POSTED: 01/18/2008 - 08:18 pm / quote |
soapalot :
Man I hate articles like this. A member of a band says something like "I wouldn't rule out a reunion" or "yeah it would be great if we got back together sometime." But that doesn't mean that there's any plans in place to do anything. And with Patton's personality and business sense, I don't think it would happen at all.

But in saying that, I love FNM and would love the see them reform

Check out Fanotmas! Patton, Buzz Osbourne, Dave Lombardo and Trevor Dunn.

Avant Garde Death Metal.

FNM is still one of my fave bands. Saw them back in the day sandwitched between Soundgarden and VoiVod and they blew the roof off the place. It would be killer if they got back together for a tour.

stop calling it metal...neither do rhcp do metal nor faith no more...it is rock with something to it, you can say that without forcing others to believe it to be metal or so...slayer do metal...

BY THE WAY: RHCP own FNM for a reason none of you can deny: mike patton imitated anthony keides's look, voice and style on EPIC, he even admitted that...therefore FNM only had that one greasted hit cuz they took certain elements from a band much greater, or in mike patton's case worth copying: the red hot chili peppers, who actually rock the shit out of me. alright, the stadium arcadium is very love-song-ballad like, BUT: john fruisciante is one of the greatest guitar players in this world... he'sgot the grove on. By The Way rocks too.

I would be a much bigger fan of Mike Patton if he wasn't such an elitist douche. I really liked all of the Fantomas records, Mr. Bungle stuff and the new Peeping Tom record, but then I saw the video of him ripping on Wolfmother at some festival so now there's that nagging voice in the back of my head reminding me that it would be a lot cooler if he just kept his mouth shut.

I know a lot of people hate Wolfmother, I don't really care. Being a musical elitist isn't going to change my opinion, so please, just don't listen to it and keep your thoughts to yourself.

Why do people compare FMN to RHCP? RHCP is just music by numbers, exceptionally token. FMN was revolutionary, Mike Patton is very switched on musically.

I think fnm is way better than rhcp. Take one album by fnm...the real thing...take off epic and the cover of war pigs and there are still more good songs than the chili peppers have had in their whole career.

As far as RHCP getting ripped off by Patton... whatever. I could argue that RHCP ripped off Blondie (Rapture).
