Five Finger Death Punch To Emo, Carry Pantera Torch?

Five Finger Death Punch has been working tirelessly for more than a year and now it's beginning to pay off. Vocalist Ivan and crew are supporting The Way Of The Fist, and they've been slowly building their following to be one of Heavy Metal's biggest bands. Five Finger Death Punch consistently sells 4,000 to 5,000 copies a week and the album has never left the Billboard 200 album charts. The success of the album is prompting a worldwide release for January 19.

For those with some heavy music pedigree, the band's sound is similar to the roar and clash of old school and new school sounds created by Pantera, and in a previous interview the band said that's fine with them.

When I was a kid and I looked up to these big metal bands, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and whatnot, Pantera, Metallica, I was like 'Wow, man. That's what I wanna be.' I have a hard time to imagine some kid looking up onstage with some weak like dude, some dorky guy, being..." [Ivan] "It's like, 'Daddy never loved me enough...'" [Zoltan] "Yeah, it's like, 'Dude, grow some balls,' you know?"

Five Finger Death Punch is currently touring the west coast, with dates wrapping up December 4 in San Diego, California.

I don't think these guys could carry the Pantera torch, no one can. Other than that the dude wasn't comparing themselves to Pantera, he just said he looked up to Pantera as a true metal band, not some emo fags. These guys are OK. Pantera was great, one of the greatest.

If you've never heard the bands but are just going on preconceived notions, you have no right to speak against them. The bands AVIDFANOFSOUNDS listed are all really good emo bands, IMO.

None of the bands you just named have shit on Pantera, sure they may be heavier, but no one is gonna remeber those guys when their, Pantera made a major impact on heavy metal. I'd be willing to bet money the bands you just named listen and were influenced by Pantera. Pantera's legacy has been set in stone dude, they are pioneers.

I just looked up these guys, they sound pretty cool. Th eonly things that gets on my nerves is their vocalist screaming so much. 'Waking the Fallen' by Avenged Sevenfold is a metal album that I can listen to, because there's a good balance of singing and screaming. But if the screaming overrules, I'm probably not interested.

You don't know what you are talking about. Death, Atheist, and Cynic all have way more talent than Pantera and were not influenced by Pantera at all. They were all around during the same time as Pantera. Not to mention, those bands have influenced countless have great bands, while Pantera has influenced countless of shitty bands.Sure, Pantera has some good songs, but you have to admit they influenced a lot of crappy bands such as these guys. And maybe the bands he named won't be remembered by the mainstream as well as Pantera, but for the underground they will be remembered as some of the most influencial metal bands ever.

I definetly see your point man, but your comparing apples and oranges, these bands are separated by genre, but in the grand scheme of things, Pantera is one of the best all around metal bands ever. I'm talking metal as a whole, Black Sabbath, Metallica, Judas Priest, Ozzy, Slayer, you know "the" pioneers. You can lump Pantera in that group, granted they are more mainstream. Sure Death is good, but you'll find only a small contingency of people who have even heard of them, which doesn't take away from their greatness or the fact that they rule their genre. Pantera started out a bunch of fags playing basically glam, but when they got their shit together, they were the best.

yea those bandz r really good im not disagreein wit u der thoz r sum uv my favrite bandz but all the good metal now haz evolved frum Pantera's sound without Pantera derz no Lamb Of God derz no Slipknot derz no metal past the 90s so they deserve a bit uv respect and they've had almost as big an effect on metal as Metallica

I deffinatly think this band is gonna go places w/ their music. Also agreed on the emo music comments made by Ivan and Zoltan. I really cannot stand that whiny shit in any way, shape, or form. Someone up there also said that w/out pantera there would be no L.O.G. DISAGREED!!!
