Flyleaf will change colors this weekend switching from pop to rock. The band is set to play Z-100's ZooTopia in New York on Saturday, May 17, and then jet off to Columbus, Ohio for the Heavy Rock extravaganza Rock On The Range. Z-100 will feature artist such as OneRepublic and Miley Cyrus, while Rock On The Range is sporting Alter Bridge, Filter and Stone Temple Pilots, among others.
The band, minus singer Lacey Mosley, who was suffering from shredded vocal chords, talked about the mindset playing a pop show like Z-100.
Flyleaf On Being Rock Band Z 100
[Pat Seals] "I've heard that it's going to be a shorter amount of time, and I think we are who we are live and we're just going to do it how we're going to do it I guess."
We also asked Flyleaf who they're looking forward to seeing at Rock On The Range.
Flyleaf On Who They Want To See At Rock On Range
[Sameer Bhattacharya] "I think that STP might be playing the day before us, and I think we might be getting there a day early. I think Eddie is mixing them, so I want to try and see 'em." [Pat] "I believe Black Tide is playing pretty early in the day, and they're a cool new band. I think they're going to go far, and I'd like to at least check them out. Sevendust is playing, and they're kind of an older band I look up to a lot."
Flyleaf is having great Top 40 success with the Top 40 hit "All Around Me," but songs like "I'm So Sick" and "Sorrow" were big rock format hits. The band is currently out on the road with Red and Seether.

Unless if you consider all other groups with female vocalists like Lacuna Coil, Otep, etc. to be pop, I don't think so...
Despite the fact that some of their songs may be radio friendly, they're just mainstream rock.POSTED: 05/20/2008 - 02:02 pm / quote |

She makes up for it in actions expressing the song, I heard them and they were great though it may be due to a small venue or I haven't heard better.POSTED: 05/20/2008 - 07:23 pm / quote |

Angela Gossow of Arch Enemy uses distortion on her voice, not the girl from flyleaf. POSTED: 05/20/2008 - 09:23 pm / quote |

: listen to "i'm so sick" then tell me if they are rock or pop. maybe they have played for pop audiences but i don't really even consider them to be that mainstream.POSTED: 06/04/2008 - 11:42 am / quote |

: Shredded vocal chords? Man - someone isn't singing right. She'd better be careful before she develops polyps and has to stop permanently.
Aside from that, I don't think I've ever cared less what genre a band is in. So Sick, All Around Me, and Sorrow are about the only good songs off the cd. The rest are milktoast filler.
Anyway - point is music is music. If it's good, call it good. If it's not, call it crap. Are any labels really necessary outside of that?POSTED: 06/04/2008 - 03:52 pm / quote |

: If Flyleaf is pop, then you might as well call Avenged Sevenfold jazz. Whoever considers Flyleaf pop for even one song is completely wrong. They are about as hard core as it getsPOSTED: 09/14/2008 - 01:44 am / quote |

: Agreed Joodan! I hate pop but I listen to Flyleaf a LOT! I've heard them described as "metal", "rock", even "emo", but POP???? What is this guy on??

: LOLOL flyleaf? hardcore? you want hardcore, go megadeth. please.
flyleaf is good, but come on, guys, they're pop. anyone with a decent knowledge of music genres can tell you that.
it's called pop for a reason. pop meaning "popular", i.e., mainstream. they're not "not rock", but they're pop. pop rock.
i love pop rocks.POSTED: 11/10/2009 - 05:30 pm / quote |

Early in her career when she was suicidal, she got i think cancer in her throat (due to the wonderful screams she emits) her gradma took her to church and they prayed for her, and she thought it was a load of shit....till she mysteriously healed practically overnight.
Ha. Hardcore? Naw, Pop? FUCK NO. they are a hard rock band haha pop is like muther fuzucking Hannah Montanna. Seriously whoever taught you your music genres was not right in their head...no offense.POSTED: 11/14/2009 - 12:46 am / quote |
