umm how can a singer wail... a singer wailing doesnt sound too apealling unless they have a guitar in their hand

Unless if you consider all other groups with female vocalists like Lacuna Coil, Otep, etc. to be pop, I don't think so...

Despite the fact that some of their songs may be radio friendly, they're just mainstream rock.

Wail:
–verb (used without object)
Slang. to express emotion musically or verbally in an exciting, satisfying way.

She uses distortion with her voice. Fail.

I don't really like Flyleaf but I doesn't sound like she uses distortion. How do you know this?

She makes up for it in actions expressing the song, I heard them and they were great though it may be due to a small venue or I haven't heard better.

Angela Gossow of Arch Enemy uses distortion on her voice, not the girl from flyleaf.

They were pop in the first place? Nooo, I think not.

listen to "i'm so sick" then tell me if they are rock or pop. maybe they have played for pop audiences but i don't really even consider them to be that mainstream.

Shredded vocal chords? Man - someone isn't singing right. She'd better be careful before she develops polyps and has to stop permanently.

Aside from that, I don't think I've ever cared less what genre a band is in. So Sick, All Around Me, and Sorrow are about the only good songs off the cd. The rest are milktoast filler.

Anyway - point is music is music. If it's good, call it good. If it's not, call it crap. Are any labels really necessary outside of that?

Joodan :
If Flyleaf is pop, then you might as well call Avenged Sevenfold jazz. Whoever considers Flyleaf pop for even one song is completely wrong. They are about as hard core as it gets
POSTED: 09/14/2008 - 01:44 am / quote |
AJAX1812 :
Agreed Joodan! I hate pop but I listen to Flyleaf a LOT! I've heard them described as "metal", "rock", even "emo", but POP???? What is this guy on??

And she's losing her vocal cords?!? Bummer!!
