Guns N' Roses Boot Gives Eagles Of Death Metal Last Laugh

While Guns N Roses made big news with the release of the album Chinese Democracy, which took 18 years to hit stores, what isnt news is the fact the band had been touring as recently as a few years ago. One of their opening bands was the Eagles Of Death Metal, which were kicked off GNRs last tour by one Axl Rose. Eagles Of Death Metal recently released their latest album "Heart On," and consists of old friends Jesse Hughes and Josh Homme. They saw their hard work pay off in 2006 after the release of their sophomore album "Death By Sexy" and they parlayed their success into being invited in the fall of 2006 to tour with Guns N Roses. However, after the bands first show of the tour the always unpredictable Axl Rose took the stage and kicked the band off the tour, in front of a packed crowd.

We caught up with Jesse Hughes to get his thoughts on what exactly happened.

"He shows up forty five minutes late and it was like Stepford Wives. Everyone was acting like Stepford Wives and that's because of the maniacal regime and I can't respect that. It's an outrage and a it's a disrespect for the opportunity. So anyway, when he goes on stage and it's three songs into it and he says 'What did you all think of the Pigeons of S**t Metal? Well you better feel sorry for those little fellas because they are no longer on the tour. So, I was dinking something at the time and immediately went 'Pfft!' Now me being who I am I immediately went 'Press! Yes!' Then I was kind of hurt because I didn't understand it. You know I went there completely wanting to be approved by one of my idols and here he was sh**ting on me in the most outrageously disrespectful way. It was classless. It was not Axl Rose it was Wackl Rose or I'm not on Paxil Rose."

Hughes also mentioned the incident was a defining moment in his career of Rock N Roll.

"And then Dave Grohl, being the ultimate sweetheart, not only a great friend but a true rock alli, made his press statement on AOL that being disapproved by Axl was like being Knighted by the Queen. The next thing you know I'm on every streaming banner on AOL and that made my career. It literally was a defining moment of my career in Rock N Roll. It just goes to show that it aint always what it seems like. If something's in play for awhile, it aint over until it's over."

Don't feel too bad for the band, as they once again made another wise business decision and got paid in advance for the whole tour.

"Oh we got kicked off the tour and I got paid for every show. Because let me tell you how Axl works and I took advantage of business because I'm not a dummy. Just for the money issue Axl can't get anyone to work for him unless he pays them in advance because he's notorious for canceling tours and you just can't live like that. You know because he demands the best, whatever. So, that's his business model so in order for us to even begin the tour we had to be paid in advance."

The Eagles of Death Metal will close out 2008 with a few Radio Station Holiday concerts. The band will kick off the Holiday season in December 10th in Kansas City for KRBZ's 7th Annual Night The Buzz Stole Christmas. The Eagles of Death Metal will close down their 2008 tour on December 18th in Chicago for Q101's Twisted 15. Look for the band to announce a new run of tour dates in 2009.

Actually, he really shouldn't. That's a huge slap in the face and a monumental disrespect to both the band and the fans. I have little doubt there were plenty of people who bought tickets to that show specifically to see EoDM and he basically screwed those fans over for, apparently, no good reason. He has certain rights, but he crossed the line when he did it in an absolutely classless manner.

When I knew what had happened I lost the few respect I still had for Axl Rose.
It must be quite embarrasing that the "Pigeons of Shit Metal", a band with much less experience, releases an album in just a year which is by far the best rock album in a LONG time (IMO), while the Axl Rose solo project, with dozens of musicians and hundreds of people working with them, with a lot of experience, releases an album in 17 years which is... how to say it... pretty crappy. ^^'

What happened was eodm played the first show of the tour and they got booed alot because most of the crowd was just a bunch of retarded gangbangers who weren't into that type of music and only came to see GNR. A bunch of suicide girls hit the stage that night too and they got booed off the stage and afterwards, Jesse Hughes hung out with them backstage.
Tommy Stintson or however you spell it was the one that recommended that eodm opened for gnr.

Apparently after eodm got kicked off the tour, the GNR camp sent out an apology and they invited eodm back on the tour, but Jesse told them to go **** themselves or something along that line.

And eodm getting booed probably has nothing to do with their performance, it's just that the GNR fans didn't accept them because alot of them are narrow minded and aren't open to different kinds of music.

that's a totally unfair comparison eodm are a very mediocre band opening for a legendary band while the who is much better than slayer(i do like slayer), and no they would not get booed by many at a slayer show, .most metal fans have good taste in rock music that's why they don't like a mediocre rock band like eodm. Also i'm a member of a GN'R fanboard and most people on their have great taste in music, liking stuff from opeth to radiohead but not many stick up for this crap band eodm.

also sorry for the double post but whoever gets openers for GN'R has done horrible in recent years the only opening band they got that didn't deserve booing was avenged sevenfold, they've had other sub par bands like papa roach, bfmv, and cky open for them. What happened to Gn'R getting great openers like FNM, Soundgarden, Skid Row, and the cult. I'd like to see Muse opening for them on the Chinese Democracy tour although I doubt that will be possible unless Axl starts promoting the album and they release some music videos. Chinese Democracy is actually a very good album I have seen so much blind hatred for it on here and other places, where people listen to it once and then judge it because they want to hate it. A good amount of the songs take at least a few listens before you can hear the greatness in them. Sorry is the best rock song in a looong time.

I wish it were more clear what exactly happened. In any case, Axl was incredibly stupid. After paying them up front for the tour, he kicks them out on the first show. He isn't being ballsy. Being ballsy is stage-diving from the top of the scaffolding. Being ballsy is breaking off from your record company when you know they're screwing you over. Being ballsy is very different from abusing your opening act to make yourself look better and get a cheap laugh. Axl should know better.

Well, that's YOUR opinion. I also have a very wide musical taste, from Radiohead or Aphex Twin to Opeth or Bloodbath, going through Cynic, Hednrix, SRV... and eventhough I like Guns n' Roses (that means, Appetite - Illusion era), I'd take Eagles of Death Metal over them anyday. Why? Because they may not be the most technical or complex band, but there's something NOBODY does like them: plainly rock.

GnR has a very wide fan base from all different types of genres. I haven't read most of the responses, but I was at the show in Cleveland when this happened. Sebastian Bach's band opened up, and they kicked ass. The Suicide Girls were next, and did their thing quite well. Then, The Eagles of Death Metal came on, and the show fell flat. The booing started, at least from the comments I heard from people around me, because the SOUND was shitty. I have no idea if the songs were good or not, because everything coming out of those guitars was horrible. Myself, and probably most folks at the concert, had never heard of Eagles of Death Metal, probably thought that was "their sound," and were growing restless from waiting for Axl's band. Plus, the music really did not fit the show, at all. Seriously, GNR didn't go on until at least 11:30 that night. The floor was filled at 6 o'clock. They wouldn't have been booed if the order was Eagles of Death Metal, Suicide Girls, Sebastian Bach, GNR. That would have lead to GNR being booed, since Bach tore it up. Also, nobody mentions that Axl also fired a sound guy after a few songs.

And eodm getting booed probably has nothing to do with their performance, it's just that the GNR fans didn't accept them because alot of them are narrow minded and aren't open to different kinds of music.
It's like if you had the who open up for a band like slayer, the who would probably get booed off the stage no matter how good their performance was because the typical slayer fan only listens to "metal".

They don't play death metal. The title is just a joke; Jesse Hughes coined it after he was trying to get Josh Homme into death metal and Josh started playing some riffs that he claimed would be played by the "Eagles of Death Metal." Basically, it's their idea of the halfway point between the Eagles and death metal.

Again, I was at the concert as I've stated before and EoDM deserved to be booted. They were booed off the stage. The fans decided they were off the tour before Axl even said they were. The fans made the choice, those who paid for those tickets. Axl did us all a favor.

I bleed metal is right. IT is a good way to put it. They did suck and Axl did us all a fovor for booting them. Was he harsh, yeah a little and I stress "a little," but this guy ( the front man) makes it seem like he just put on a good performance and it was a total shock. It was a bad performance on the Eagles of death metal part, and if they are going to share the stage with axl (even if you guys don't like axl) the Eagles of Death metal should of done better. By the way Axl and friends were amazing, it isn't the GN'R that got me into music but it is a Gn'R that deserves respect. I was there by the way, I am not making stuff up, lol.
