Kerry King Gives An Update On Upcoming Slayer Album

Slayer are getting close to finishing the recording of their highly anticipated new album, which will be the band's follow up to 2006's "Christ Illusion." "Christ Illusion" was one of Slayer's heaviest album's to date and featured the original lineup of Tom Araya, Jeff Hanneman, Kerry King and Dave Lombardo. So what does lead guitarist Kerry King feel the direction the new album is taking?

We caught up with Kerry King to get his thoughts on the upcoming album having a little bit of everything, with a few interesting new Slayer sounds.

 Kerry King Gives Update On New Slayer Album

"It's never a new direction, it's just what you right from time to time you know is the next segment of your life sort of speak. So, I think "Christ Illusion" was more brutal. It was really a fast record and this one has a little bit of everything on it. It's certainly not a mellowing, it's certainly not a change of ideas or anything. It's just like I said, it's got a little more of everything. There's heavy stuff, there's fast stuff, there's all kind of interesting new Slayer sounds to check out."

Slayer and Megadeth, two of the bands that defined the thrash/metal genre, will perform together for the first time in more than 15 years when they co-headline four shows in Canada in late June. The tour, dubbed "Canadian Carnage," will also feature Machine Head and Suicide Silence, and will see Megadeth and Slayer each closing two of the four shows. Slayer is also set to headline this year's Mayhem Tour, which also features Marilyn Manson, Killswitch Engage, Bullet For My Valentine, Trivium, All That Remains and God Forbid. The Mayhem Tour will kick off July 10th in Sacramento, California and conclude August 16th in San Antonio, Texas.

I don't want to anger anyone buy saying this but quite frankly I agree with you. I love Slayer but with most thrash bands, the 80s thrash were the glory days and the 1990's kinda effed everything up.

Even for Slayer, who only deviated from the pattern on South of Heaven, faded during the 90's. Bostaph is an awesome drummer, but it's not Slayer without Lombardo.

That being said, this should be a ****ing awesome album.

Thing thing about slayer was,all they did was slow down on South of Heaven. They went from Ultra-fast,to Ultra-slow,but not much else changed IMO. Unlike say the others,with Testament putting out Death Metal,Megadeth putting out AOR Hard Rock,Metallica and their Alternative albums,and Anthrax with their Grungeydom.

hopefully, this will be badass. they never really lost their sound, like other thrash bands did, but they did write some bland songs, and merely OK albums. they have the ability, integrity, and willpower to make one of the best albums ever, and i really hope they do so.

This album will be awesome. Sad this is gonna be one of the last albums they'll release hopefully they'll change their mind and keep going and release more music cause they're really consistent in their music and thats why I have so much respect for them.

I want that Canadian Carnage in ENGLAND. NOW. Slayer, Megadeth and Machine Head? Hell yes. Also, to the people bashing COB, I've seen them live twice and they are NOT sloppy or that drunk on stage. Unfortunately, both times they haven't played Hatecrew Deathroll, the 1st coz they ran out of time and the 2nd because some TWAT in the audience threw beer on the sound mixer. But they were still awesome both times.
