Korn is set to finish up work on their new album, which is set for release later this year. The band is minus David Silveria, with tracks done by Missing Persons and Zappa skin-basher Terry Bozzio. It's the band's follow-up to their first album for Virgin Records, See You On The Other Side.
Vocalist Jonathan Davis and guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer told us at the Family Values cemetery party recently that the album is like nothing they've ever done before.
Watch video: Korn Almost Almost Finished With New Album
"The last song I'm doing vocals. We only have two more days, and then the album will be done. It cannot compare to anything we've done in the past. It's its own..." (To Munky) Do you think?" [Shaffer] "It's a totally mature Korn. The songs have evolved I think with our age." [Davis] "We've got Zack on keyboards, so we've got a lot of keyboards now. I'm not even going to try and explain it. You've just got to hear it."
Aside from a different sound, they're writing a different way -- with pop hit songwriters The Matrix. Davis said it will still sound like Korn.
Watch video: Korn On Songwriting Process Of New Album
"We started off doing that and it's turned into its own thing. It's been a really cool experience, having someone outside coming in to write with us and then taking that and mixing it up, twisting it around, and doing it our own way. I don't know. The way we did it this time was really interesting and fun."
Korn will start to do the European Festival Circuit starting with Pinkpop on May 28 in Landgraaf. The band will kick off the Family Values Tour in St. Louis, Missouri on July 20.

: 1st! Those new songs that're on their Myspace just sound like See You On The Other Side stuff, although the song that doesn't sound like a shitty intro has a pretty cool extended bridge section. Judging by that track, the new album is going to be a less monotonous though equally poppy version of SYOTOS. Yay for progression and whatnot but ****it I wish someone would piss Davis off again and give the music a bit of edge. Some idiot at the drive-through who messes up his order, anything! Or stop calling it KoRn. My opinion.POSTED: 04/30/2007 - 09:41 am / quote |

: Blah, I used to be an extreme KoRn fan back in the day, but this stuff is a joke lol.. yeah some people may like it but seriously they should start a different project under a new name or something - this is not Korn...
I have a KoRn t-shirt, it looks quite out of place next to my Opeth/Necrophagist/Bodom etc t-shirts but I wear it proudly because I thoroughly enjoy their older albums - but the new stuff they're bringing out is going to make me throw this t-shirt out lol.
I'm not dissing what they're doing now - but it should be a new project, not living off of what they used to be.

: Korn will never be the same again...ever. It's not even metal anymore. Sure, See You On The Other Side had some good songs but I'm just not feeling the new stuff. : i just find it funny that a man pushing forty still devotes all of his lyrical efforts on this woe is me teen angst b.s. I mean grow up already, he's rich as hell and is still famous i suppose what does he have to whine about. I hate these bands that parade their own little pity parties around and never grow out of it. look at nine inch nails; Trent was the king of that tyoe of singwriting and he did it well but even he has let it go in lieu of simething more mature. Korn should give it up. I loved them when i was a teenager but after life is peachy they just fell apart. Oh well at least they made it and did something with themselves I can't argue that.POSTED: 04/30/2007 - 03:04 pm / quote |

no joke, the only bad thing is theyve reivented themselves well the last couple times, like for example, they daid they reinvented themselves when issues came out, cus they went away from the rap metal and went more towards the alt metal side, then when untouchables came out, they started using keyboards a little, then head leaves, syotos comes out, and theyre totally different, now they say theyre gonna be a progressive rock band, pshhh, give me a break, they should have stopped when head left, they made an aswesome rap metal band, then they made a really good alt metal band, then they made a shitty industrial band, and now theyre gonna be a shitty progressive rock bandPOSTED: 04/30/2007 - 04:17 pm / quote |

Korn-Was more of a pure metal album
Life is Peachy-the pissed off, brutal lyrics, with more range in the music
Follow the Leader-the first real Nu-Metal album, with a lot of rapping in it.
Issues-Not there best effort, sounded the same as the future Untouchables, the only two remotely same Korn albums.
Untouchables-See Above
Take A Look in the Mirror-HEAVY album, a lot of screaming in it.
SYOTOS-Industrial
the next album-more progressive.

: I have a hard time listening to them anymore. I was a dedicated fan literally from the release of the first album to untouchables. But I grew up. Davis's lyrics didn't. They only relate to teenagers. You can't grow with them. I will always respect the fact that they created a new genre of music. Unfortunately, that music was destined to fade away. It was cool while it lasted, but seriously I'm embarrassed to crank their albums at 25 years old.POSTED: 04/30/2007 - 04:45 pm / quote |

I didnt think Issues and Untouchables were the same at all seeing as, 1) Issues is my favorite album and, 2) Untouchables is my least favorite. Also I never understood why everyone bashed TALITM. It was a good album. Sure not too new but it kicked some ass. Heavier than anything they had done. I hope the new album is good. Thats all Ill say.POSTED: 04/30/2007 - 04:53 pm / quote |

wow you got this wrong mate.
Korn - raw sounding nu-metal, the beginning of the genre.
Life Is Peachy - Great songs, same style as self titled
Follow the Leader - The peak of their nu-metal with catchy songs
Issues - One of the darker albums, one of the best. (and in no way the same as the "future untouchables", sort your ears out.
Untouchables - Singles galore, most of the songs sounded the same
TALITM - Easily the heaviest album, great guitaring, quite liked it.
SYOTOS - pile of sh*t poppy sounding songs, how the HELL can you even describe this album as industrial :|
anyway back to the news topic, loved them when i was 14-16 through the times of Korn-Issues, then listened to them less over time, he needs to get p*ssed off again,

Prog rock? You gotta be yankin' me. I will say they have written some catchy songs, but none of these guys have the chops to pull of the prog thing. Also, how long ago did the last record come out? Doesn't seem like that long ago. As for lyrics... John Davis is what, like 36, 37? He needs to write about something current instead of angst he had when he was 15. They need to find some new inspiration, or actually go in a new direction instead of saying it and then releasing another clone of Follow the Leader. If they don't do something soon, they'll end up just like their flunkies in Limp Bizkit.

: Yea i don't get why people bash take a look in the mirror, some bad ass riffs and davis is goin nuts through the cd. but for see you on the other side, hated twisted trans. that cd had one good song on it, liar. and the last korn show i was at, it was alittle disappointing, they didn't give any energy, they weren't all jumping around on stage anymore. sad to see that korn got old and out of datePOSTED: 04/30/2007 - 06:21 pm / quote |

: i have to say i havent really liked anything they've done after issues but that new song i will protect you is definately different from anything they've ever done. I wouldnt necessarily call it progressive in the sense of dream theater or symphony x, but it definately has certain progressive elements in that song. i thought the new song was really unique and i can honestly say i am now looking forward to the new album after listening to that songPOSTED: 05/01/2007 - 12:21 am / quote |
huevosplash
: John's lyrics (and even vocals) are the only thing that i would say needs to change. musically, Korn can be pretty versatile to an extent. that new song is interesting, and i hope the new album will show true progress. i just wish they would stop saying that they're changing their sound.
the music should speak for itself.
as for people hating on Korn for lacking energy and such, im damn sure that no one would want to be spewing out the same album over and over. its funny, cuz i have a subtle dislike of Korn for not changing it up enough!
i must say that they release a new album way too often. if they held back, maybe something different might be evoked from them. POSTED: 05/01/2007 - 01:03 am / quote |

I completely agree,IMO head was the heart of korn, he created all of their unique guitar riffs and the trademark heavy sound...munky barely contributed to it, he just done what head told him to do, and now that head has left, munky is writing all the riffs and thats why they all suck so much...POSTED: 05/01/2007 - 07:05 am / quote |

yea, i agree, a band cant always have he anger and intensity they did when they were 20, and it doesnt bother me that they have matured, but syotos was not a good ablum, it had 1-3 good songs on it imo, and those were songs that werent popular, and ur right, they arent pulling the progressive rock thing off at all, but that's exactly what theyre trying to do POSTED: 05/01/2007 - 08:06 am / quote |
