Legendary bassist, Lemmy Kilmister continues to tour and record with his band Motorhead, gaining new fans around the world with each album and each passing performance. But is it true there has been a recent ground swell of support by his fans who have nominated Lemmy to eventually get Knighted by the Queen of England? Could we eventually be calling him Sir Lemmy? Well that's exactly what is happening as a legion of Lemmy fans has officially nominated Lemmy to a status of Knighthood. So how does someone become Knighted, like Sir Paul McCartney or Sir Elton John? It turns out anyone can nominate a British citizen for knighthood and nominations from the public account for about a quarter of all recommendations and the Prime Minister and government departments submit the rest of the recommendations.

"They're never going to get that man. That's out of reach I tell you. That would be funny. I'd dress up in the armor and the horse and I'd go down there you know, kneel in front of the Queen 'Where's the sword? I want the sword.' You know. It would just be funny. Funny enough in Britain it's very important. A lot of British people in the Civil Service or the foreign office things like that, they work all their lives for a K and most of them don't ever get it. It's sad to see them scurrying about. Hoping to be a Sir. What, who cares? Sir?"
The Order of the British Empire is perhaps the most common knighthood given today. It's awarded to civilians for public service and contributions to the nation. Many British scientists, educators, doctors, nurses, charitable and social workers, business people, athletes, writers, actors, musicians, and artists have received this distinction. Motorhead kicked off their 2009 tour in support of their latest album "Motorizer" with a performance at The Desert Rock Festival March 6th in Dubai. Motorhead have dates booked throughout 2009 across the globe culminating in 15 shows in The U.K. during November of 2009.
