Linkin Park Narrow Song List For New Album

Linkin Park, who are currently in the studio with Rick Rubin working on their much anticipated new album, have narrowed down their song list for the upcoming album from one hundred down to seventeen.

We caught up with Mike Shinoda, who was debuting his original art work at Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles, to talk about the process of narrowing down the songs and where the band is at now.

"We've narrowed it down from a hundred songs to thirty five and now we're down to seventeen or eighteen. Narrowing the songs down is horrible because you always feel like your kicking your kids off a team because there's not enough space on the field for them. But that's what we do every time we make a record and we're used to it. We have to do that to get things paired down because I don't want to say perfectionistic [sic] because we know there's no such thing but we definitely want the best for our records and we try to put in the work to get there."

Look for Linkin Park to have the new album released in 2007. The band has also announced they will be performing at The Bamboozle Festival in New Jersey on May 6th 2007. This is the only announced US appearance so far by the band and you can bet they will be showcasing new material off the yet unnamed album.

wow 4 years to rcord a disc? it looks like there 4 disc might not come out til 2012 if were lucky. this cd better be more than a half hour long. If its over 45 minutes I'll be surprised but it should be good with Rick Rubin on there side.

Hopefully the new album is good. I wasn't the biggest fan of Meteora, but I liked it. The guys are talented and I'm sure they will deliver. Haters please go away it gets annoying when in every post that crap is going on.

Anyway, new album seems to be good these guys were one of my faves when they released meteora and live in texas, its been too long they shouldve just released a 48 song massacre disc or something.

jesus they've been narrowing the track list for ages now - it doesn't take three years to write and record an album - put it out already. i love linkin park - they're one of my favorite bands - but it's presumptuous to take three years to do a record. damn rock stars...

It's been a while and I'll check this one out, Meteora was highly dissapointment, all the talk about it being something big for them and blegh...

I hope they don't make a 30 minute record, it has to be an hour at least because they're albums if short just leave a shorter impression. The more songs, chances are - wider audience.

well, from what i've heard it's going to be leaning more on the rock aspects of the band.

I think they're trying to beat GN'R at who can delay an album for longer. These guys are out of their league, Axl is NEVER gonna release 'Chinese Democracy'! Give up Linkin Park, and just give us the damn album!!!

i can't wait ay, meteora wasn't their best but i still liked it. hybrid theory was still my favourite. and i am hoping to hell it isn't a hip hop album like that one they did with jay-z. that was bullshit. but these guys are talented, i've been a fan since one step closer was on video hits and i'm sure this album will be mad. and i'm a bit confused about why its taken em so long.. but maybe there will be a dvd that explains why or something... there's probly a good reason for it, but for now.. don't go making up bullshit just cos you don't know.

30 mins. is short an hour is almost boresville so around 45 mins is just right and it wouldn't surpise me if they WROTE nearly 100 songs (lyrics not music) not to mention they got sidetracked with Fort Minor and chester was performing with his old band GreyDaze or whatever, but anyway they said they'd be taking the nu metal genre out of it so i dunno how well that's going to work out but good luck to them.

i know it's really late, but sometimes artists get jammed on a song. I'm in a band and i know what it feels like to be pressured up the ass for new material [others in the band have no sense of the English language, or any toher at that] but still, knowing Linkin Park, it'll be worth the wait
