Megadeth Revisits Gigantour

Megadeth has once again produced a stellar Metal-themed festival in Gigantour, which is set to start September 7 in San Diego, California. The tour will also feature Lamb Of God, Opeth, Arch Enemy, Overkill, Into Eternity, and a few others that will be announced at a later date.

Megadeth leader Dave Mustaine, who created Gigantour, talked about the concept of the festival.

"Part of the reason why I wanted to do Gigantour was that I've been on a lot of festivals around the world, in Japan, Europe and most places people don't ever get to see let alone perform, and I noticed that one of the things in America is that festivals are really highly priced. On top of that a lot of the festivals here that are successful have the same types of bands on them. I wanted to do a festival that consisted of a lot of exciting bands that had really good players but weren't necessarily all the same genre of music. You've got some speed metal, you've got some thrash metal, you've got some prog metal, you've got hard rock/heavy metal, so on and so forth. There's some nu-metal, there's some industrial metal, I guess you would call it."

He added that he also created Gigantour because he wanted to create a festival where fans didn't feel ripped off and used.

"What I wanted to do was dig into all these different areas, grab some great bands, and make it affordable for people so that they could come out and see the concert and walk away satisfied, not feeling like if you've gone to some concert, spent two or three hundred dollars for one nights performance if you take a guest or a date or something and get some souvenirs. Walk away satiated. For me, I feel music should be something that you should get a climax out of, not walk away feeling like you were the one that was used."

Last year's fest featured the likes of Anthrax, Dream Theater, and Fear Factory, and a Gigantour DVD is being released September 5 to coincide with the launch and lifespan of the 2006 festival. The audio version of the compilation Gigantour album is set for release August 22.

eh not a bad line up...not that i'm anywhere remotely close to gigantour.

I think it's a good line up, despite what everyone says. it's not perfect, but there isnt a festival that will be perfect for everyone.

This lineup is INSANE! (in my opinion) Megadeth (thrash gods!) Lamb Of God (great newer stuff, technical as shit!) Arch Enemy is freakin awesome, Opeth is really sweet too. and Then Overkill, and Sactity are both Thrashy as Shit, So im all over that... I dont like the crashup or whatever though... they done really have that Gigantour feel...

i went last year, it kicked ass, i went to unholy alliance, kicked ass, and now gigantour II this year, so that would be the second time i've seen Megadeth and Lamb of God. and oh hey, Overkill is on the bill, they are old school as hell, and kick ass, but kinda obscene, oh well!

I have to say, Gigantour kicked Unholy Alliances ass. The Slayer pit was awesome.. But nothing beats getting to meet Mr Mustaine himself was even better than the hardcore sex last night. I loved last years line-up, and I haven't heard many bands from this years but I'll be sure to be there. WHOO! GO MEGADETH!
