Metallica Among Nominees For Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame

Metallica leads this year's crop of nominees for the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. Many think that they're an absolute lock to be voted in. Eligibility starts 25 years from an artist or band' first recording.

The nominees are:

Metallica

The Stooges

Run DMC

Jeff Beck

Wanda Jackson

Little Anthony and the Imperials

Chic

Bobby Womack

The committee can choose five artists to enter, and Metallica may be courting favor due to inducting Black Sabbath in 2006. In the press room that year, they were asked who they'd like to induct them.

They were also asked about playing Black Sabbath songs in place of the band, which had seldom been done at the time.

"We weren't about to sit down and question that when the phone rang that day. We were just like, 'F--k, yeah! Where and when, and we'll be there.' It was obviously, like we hinted at, a dream come true to play those songs in front of those guys. I mean forget about the rest of the room, with all the great people in the room, but just having those four guys there watching us play their timeless music that is pretty much responsible for us being here, that was definitely a dream come true."

Metallica have recently released their new album, Death Magnetic. The inductees will be announced in January, and the ceremony will take place at the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio on April 4, 2009.

There are some good nominees, I think Metallica is a good choice. But things are a tad out of order. Metallica was around since the 80's...what about bands before them. Rush STILL hasn't even been considered.

And wasn't Jeff Beck inducted with the Yardbirds. RHCP would be awesome, too, but they might have to wait a decade or so. Go Stooges, as well.

Out of the nine nominees I only see three groups worth nominating: Metallica, Jeff Beck (long overdue), and The Stooges. Rap does not belong in the Rock Hall of Fame, and I think it's Jann Suck-a-Weiner's bull shit way of trying to keep the Hall relevant today. Am I the only one that finds it weird that everyone else thinks that Run DMC is the odd one out? In all honesty, Metallica doesn't deserve to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at all. First off, I beleive that, yes Jeff Beck was inducted with the Yardbirds. And wasn't Iggy himself inducted a few years back sans Stooges? Also RHCP are eligible this year, they signed to EMI in '82 or '83.

Clapton had already won a Grammy for the original performance, and although Clapton is God, the acoustic version of Layla really didn't do it justice. It certainly didn't change the face of music like Nirvana had that year.

If Metallica makes it in this year, I'd like to see Megadeth attain the same honour in a couple years.

Metallica absolutely deserves to be in there along with Jeff Beck. Those are the shoo ins IMO. Nirvana aren't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They aren't even eligble yet.

And I think that Metallica deserves to be in there, because they have had a lot of influence on the genre. It would be a shame if they didn't include Mustaine, because he was a big part of their sound when they started out. And Rush needs to be in too. Same with Iron Maiden and Judas Priest if they aren't in.

Metallica will be in the rock and roll hall of fame some time or another if not this year. I hope the stooges get picked because they may not have sold as many albums or are as popular as metallica but they are one of the most influencial bands out there. I can't even imagine what punk or garage rock would sound like if the stooges were never around. They have also been egible for the hall of fame since 1994 I believe. Jeff Beck also deserves to be in the rock and roll hall of fame as well. But if metallica does get inducted next then it would be cool to see black sabbath play for them. I wonder what metallica songs they would cover.

Every song you like off Kill Em All, (Phantom Lord, Metal Militia, Jump in the Fire, Four Horsemen, Hit the Lights (no sayers? you didnt read that it was only performed live at first with Mustaine). Listen to "Ride the Lightning" intro, then listen to the outro to "Looking Down the Cross" (Dave wrote Ride the Lightening). Motorbreath is the only song in the history of the band that is entirely credited to James Hetfield. Are you kidding me? Rush isn't all Geddy Lee. Neil Peart writes most of the lyrics. Neither one guy from rush is replaceable.
And rush should be nominated for many reasons. First off, the band has been around for 40 years and had the same lineup since 1974, how many bands can you say have had the exact same members for 34+ years? And they are still going strong with more albums to come. And how many bands can you name that have 24 gold records and 14 platinum records?
They are the best selling rock band to come from Canada and even though they are Canadian their albums have actually sold better in the US then in Canada. They have a huge follwing all over the world and one of the most dedicated fanbases out there.
Every list I have seen that listed the best rock drummers of all time have put Neil Peart in the top 10 and a lot of them even had him at number 1. And the same goes to Geddy Lee's bass playing, a lot of people consider him one of the best bassists as well. And Alex Lifeson should be on these lists also but that is usuallu not the case. He is underrated and under appreciated. He is like the poor mans Jimmy Page (I'm saying this as a compliment so don't take it the wrong way).
And aside from their record sales and other accomplishments, the maind reason why rush should be in the rock and roll hall of fame is because they aren't a band that's about money, fame or image. They are all about the MUSIC. The music is their top priority and any rush fan would know that. And there isn't many bands that have had that much success while being so good at their instruments.

But from the bands on the nominee list this year, the stooges deserve it the most. I could go on about why the stooges should make it just like I have with Rush but I have bore you guys enough. Maybe I will talk about it another day.
