The Prince of Darkness, Ozzy Osbourne, is in the final mixing stage of his upcoming solo album of all new material and the album features Ozzy's current band, consisting of drummer Mike Bordin, Rob "Blasko" Nicholson on bass and Ozzy's longtime guitarist Zakk Wylde. Due to Ozzy and Zakk's extremely busy schedules, studio time together was very rare and it was even reported Zakk had to cancel a few gigs with his band, Black Label Society in order to fulfill his studio obligations in connection with Ozzy's album.
We recently caught up with Ozzy at the press conference announcing free Ozzfest to discuss the recording process and working once again with guitarist Zakk Wylde.
Watch video: Ozzy On Recording New Album
"He's (Zakk) playing guitar on the album. My band is playing on the album, but when he gets off the road I'm doing something and when he goes back on the road I'm back in the studio. It hasn't been recorded in a band situation."
So is that as of yet untitled album finished?

"More or less, we're just ironing out a few things and then we're going to go mix it."
Ozzy, who already has a very busy summer of music booked, will look to have the album released in the first week of June. It was recently announced that Ozzy will be touring Europe in May and June and head back to The US in the summer for Ozzfest. Ozzy's European tour will begin May 27th in Moscow extending until June 30th in Milan, Italy. So far the only Ozzfest date to be announced is the kick off show, July 7th in San Bernardino, California.

: I don't believe that rumor personally, but I'm just hoping that this album turns out alright--lately Ozzy's been down the crapper in my opinion...from "Ozzmosis" I started feeling a bit of a decline. Not to mention the box set that was like the 5th friggin' compilation he's made, and that "Under Cover" album...
Sorry fer a bit of a rant there but I'm just tired of the Ozzman's constant disappointmentsPOSTED: 02/24/2007 - 05:55 pm / quote |

Not that different. Zakk has always copied Randy, as some said, Zakk would probably openly say Randy is better. Zakk can be heavy and I still love his music, but what has he brought to Rock? Overused pinch harmonics? Randy was one of the main players in mixing classical music with metal and he brought his extensive use of previously unused modes and scales into Rock like never before. Overall they are both incredible players, and Zakk may well be the last guitar hero as some call him, however I feel Zakk still hasn't accomplished at his age the same sort of stuff which Randy did when he was in his mid-20's. Unfortunately Randy is a lot like Hendrix where people well never know truely how good he could have been, but I still think it's clear that Randy would win over Zakk due to what I've just pointed out.POSTED: 02/24/2007 - 10:54 pm / quote |

: Lets face it ,Zakks time with Ozzy as a guitarist is done. One can get pretty tired of the pinch harmonics. Nothing against Zakk, he has carved his niche in the guitar bible but Ozzy needs to get some new blood in there. Give some unknown shredder out there a chance. Bring in the next guitar god. Bring in the next guitar god. | I agree with you. As I told before Zakk is very good player, but I strongly believe that he has offered what he had to offer for Ozzy. Now I want to hear another type/feel of sound, a new guitar player, with his own new technique... He has already recorded 8 and now 9 albums with Ozzy(including the live ones) . I think it's time for a change...POSTED: 02/25/2007 - 06:26 am / quote |

I agree, I was saying that after the "no more tears " album.....as for the Randy & Zakk comparisons, different times, different equipment and Randys work still stands out as cutting edge ,even by todays standards.....I once heard Ozzy say,"i've yet to make my Sgt.Pepper" as far as im concerned ,he's made two of em in Blizzard & Diary.POSTED: 02/25/2007 - 07:27 am / quote |

: Zakk is god.... as for the comparison thing.... Zakk would probably say himself that he wouldn't be anywhere near where he is today if there was no Randy Rhoads. New album should be sick.

: News for all... Zakk is right! Metallica cut their hair and balls on the same day! They wanted to conform to label ideals, so they dissapointed all their fans (myself included) and turned into Nirvana and Soundgarden clones. When was the last time they wrote a "one" riff? Aside from that I'm stoked about the new Ozz album. It has to be better than DTE, which by the way Zakk didn't write any of it. POSTED: 02/25/2007 - 02:49 pm / quote |

: To give credit where due, Zakk recorded Pride and Glory, Ozzmosis, Book Of Shaddows, 3 BLS albums, DTE, and 4 or so more BLS cds (not including live cds)back to back. Thats alot of endurance. Also, he was requested by Ozzy to record DTE even after being kicked out of the band for trying to use Ozzy to join G'N'R, in part because of an undeniable fan base. That's loyalty. I love Sabbath, I love Ozzy, n I love Zakk/BLS. I love Randy 2, but he can't play on the new cd for obvious reasons. At least it's not Jake E Lee (remember 'Bark at the Moon' as a full album?) Metallica rules, St.Anger doesn’t, and as for Ozzy---anyone who’s had that much material deserves a break. Remember, Sabbath albums ‘Technical Ecstacy’ and ‘Never Say Die’ were followed up by ‘Blizzard of Ozz’ and ‘Diary…’ .Long live Ozz and I hope the new album knocks it out of the parkPOSTED: 02/25/2007 - 11:00 pm / quote |
