Slash is hard at work in the studio continuing to finish his first solo album and the former Guns N' Roses and current Velvet Revolver guitarist has been working with a number of different artists including Ozzy Osborne, Fergie and a rhythm section on a few songs that includes the formidable pairing of former NIN drummer Josh Freese and former Jane's Addiction bassist Chris Chaney. Posting an update on his Myspace page, Slash revealed, "Weve nailed four killer tracks with four amazing vocals so far, so things are going extremely well. Everybody who has contributed vocals so far have been flawless and the rhythm section, Josh and Chris, are priceless. Its definitely going to be a kick-ass record, if I do say so myself." With a revolving door of Slash's friends lending their talents to his solo album, he has been picking and choosing a different lineup for each song thus ensuring a wide range of different styles and musicians will take part in the project.
We caught up with Velvet Revolver drummer Matt Sorum, to find out if he was asked by Slash to be a part of his solo album.
"He hasn't asked me. You know he's got Jason Bonham playing on it and Travis Barker and I think he wants to kind of separate himself and do his own thing and that's cool. I mean when he first did Snakepit, I told him years ago that I thought it might be a good idea for him to bring in different singers and do that kind of thing, when we did the first Snakepit album way back when. Now he's doing it and I think it's a good time for him to explore other styles of music because he's such a great guitar player and he's lent his guitar playing to so many great artists like everyone from Iggy Pop to Dylan and he's played with Michael Jackson. I mean he's played with everybody. So to ask a favor back for him, it's a big thing for Slash and really excited for him."
Slash will perform a solo concert at the 2009 Quart Festival, although he will be joined by a number of guests and promises to perform a mixture of old and new material. The Quart Festival will place June 30th until July 4th in Kristiansand, Norway. Slash and his Velvet Revolver band mates continue their search for a replacement for vocalist Scott Weiland as they continue to write material in hopes to find the perfect front man.

: So far, I believe the guest singers are M. Shadows, Ozzy, Fergie, Kid Rock and Lenny Kravitz. Hopefully it turns out well!POSTED: 05/04/2009 - 11:13 am / quote |

: Travis' an energetic drummer. Despite the blend of different guests I hope it's a 'Hard Rock' oriented record with more emphasis on Slash's guitar work.POSTED: 05/04/2009 - 11:28 am / quote |

: Not excited at all, I hope it bombs, and keeps a worse repuatation with the general public than St. Anger. I hope this turns into something like Chinese Democracy that takes almost 2 decades to finish and release. Stupid sellout Slash, he's getting to KISS' level of sellout-ingness.POSTED: 05/04/2009 - 12:05 pm / quote |

: Everyone doesn't like every type of music. Everyone hates something. Do you enjoy Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, My Chemical Romance, 2 Pac, Public Enemy, N.W.A, Prince, The Beach Boys, Nickelback, Lady GaGa, Huey Lewis & the News, U2, Judas Priest, Poison, Opeth, In Flames, Napalm Death, Slipknot, and Bon Jovi? You might, but probably not.
I'd actually perfer Slash to drop the solo album crap, and do something good with Velvet Revolver. I don't like Slash, but he's a big part of Velvet Revolver, and they can't even find another singer, so finding another singer and guitarist will take way much too time, and Velvet Revolver wouldn't be the same without Slash's contributions.
I think Duff should take vocals in Velvet Revolver btw. That'd rock.POSTED: 05/04/2009 - 12:23 pm / quote |

Careful everyone. He might spam text at us until we die.
Anyways, i'm happy for Slash, and i hope he's having fun with his time away from VR. Definately looking forward to the release of the album.POSTED: 05/04/2009 - 12:35 pm / quote |

man, prince is sick tight! and so are a couple of those other artists. but i agree with you. slash is a great guitar player. A great guitar player that NEEDS a great singer, a great bass player, and a great drummer. I don't think he can base an entire cd off his guitar work. Not original enough. but i do like him.POSTED: 05/04/2009 - 01:59 pm / quote |

No, you've got that a little backwards. The world needs less people like you, because no one likes people that read an article about someone they don't like just so they can dis on them, but i mean, you keep on telling yourself whatever you need to to get yourself to sleep at night... Anyways, you can go back to flaming Slash for no reason.POSTED: 05/04/2009 - 02:26 pm / quote |

: I don't know why some people call Slash a sellout. He has always put effort into his music and has never been anything less than exceptional. Is it because he was in guitar hero and other things recently? So what! He has a right to try and become more popular. I hope this album is great, and how could it not be?
And by the way, it's no big deal that Sorum isn't playing on the album. This isn't velvet revolver, so why would he?POSTED: 05/04/2009 - 05:23 pm / quote |

The world does need some people like you so it doesn't have to be boring & to keep it spinning. By the way, some of those bands are pretty cool (NWA, Napalm Death, Poison, & Opeth) while others suck (MCR, Miley Cyrus).
However, I like the fact that Slash is making a solo album. I can't wait for VR to get back though, as well. And no, I'm pretty sure you are going to be wrong on so many levels.
By the way, I just wanted voice my opinion on your flaming comments.POSTED: 05/04/2009 - 05:59 pm / quote |

Its easy to call someone a sellout when you probably still live in your parent's house and don't have to worry about mortgages or bills.POSTED: 08/02/2009 - 11:07 am / quote |
