The Smashing Pumpkins continue one of the busiest and most creative times in history as the band nears the end of their 20th Anniversary Tour, which hit multiple nights in such cities as New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Washington, Kansas City and their hometown of Chicago. The Smashing Pumpkins are thrilling their fans on the current tour as they are performing completely different sets at each show, with no songs being repeated. As the tour continues on, the band decided the time was right to debut the video for their latest single "G.L.O.W." solely on MySpace. The new single, which was released via The Guitar Hero World Tour video game, marked the first time a band recorded a new song exclusively for Guitar Hero.
We caught up with Billy Corgan to get his thoughts on his musical relationship with drummer Jimmy Chamberlin and why he's the perfect complement to interpret Corgan's songs.
"I think my relationship with Jimmy really points to the fact that I like working with somebody who will help interpret my songs. I think that's been the difficulty. It's not finding new musicians; it's finding good interpreters of the songs. I think the frustration is when you give the song to somebody and they just don't give you back any energy to the point where you think 'Oh, I see a bigger vision of the song.' I often times think of people like Bob Dylan and Eric Clapton who were working with great collaborators and when those people where in the room those people's songs got better. So, we just haven't been blessed with the type of musicians up to this point that are able to give that information back. That being said, now I think we've found those people."
The Smashing Pumpkins 20th Anniversary tour extends until December 7th and 8th in Chicago, Illinois. Fans of The Smashing Pumpkins can also purchase their first ever live DVD "If All Goes Wrong" which documents the band's run of small club shows during their reunion tour on 2008.

: Lol this article shows no one cares, im apparently the only one who's read it today. While i don't like the new album or this song i do feel bad for Corgan he's really trying to keep the creativity coming and i can't blame him for not wanting to play their old songs but he should stop trying to force the Pumkins sound and just make musicPOSTED: 12/05/2008 - 03:06 pm / quote |

: if he was so against playing the old Pumpkins songs maybe he shouldn't have bothered doing the SP reunion thing and just stuck with his solo stuff...he only got one original member back anyway.
Idk, to me that just makes more sense than trying to cashin in on The Smashing Pumpkins name. =/POSTED: 12/05/2008 - 04:21 pm / quote |

: Having seen them this week and following the tour online, they have been playing they're hits: 1979, Bullet, Zero, Today, Tonight Tonight, Stand Inside Your Love, Tarantula, Cherub Rock, and Zero. The reason people are bitching about this tour is that the Pumpkins are playing two different setlists (not one single song repeated over the 2-night stay in a city) and most of night 1 consists of b-sides, covers, 2 singles, and fan-favorites. It not for the casual fans. Night two has most singles, new songs, fan favorites, and 2 covers.
Night one's negative reactions are giving the perception that the band is not playing their hits. Night two has been the set most people seem please with.POSTED: 12/05/2008 - 06:05 pm / quote |

I agree completely, but he doesn't have to do this, he could quit and get a regular job like everyone else, or just live off of the fortune im sure hes made with the pumpkins. He could just commit himself to his side project, but as long as he is playing with the smashing pumpkins, it is his duty to play the songs the fans want to hear, its not about what he wants. We the fans pay for the tickets, expecting to hear the songs we love or at least some of the hits they have had over the years. When he doesn't deliver this it lets us down, which can lead to fans to stop going to their shows, stop buying their albums, or even stop listening to them completely(even though thats a bit extreme, some people do that).
Seeing he decided to reform the pumpkins(or him and jimmy really), he should play some of his older hits, whether he wants to or not its what the majority of people going to the shows wants to hear, and as you can see from a few of the recent pumpkins news posts here, fans get pissed when they don't get that.
No one is making Billy continue with the smashing pumpkins other than himself. He needs to realize its not just about what he wants to do, people are paying good money for tickets, its about what they want too.POSTED: 12/06/2008 - 04:57 pm / quote |
