System Of A Down bassist Shavo Odadjian has teamed up with Hans Zimmer and RZA to score the forthcoming movie, Babylon A.D. The sci-fi film stars Vin Diesel, Michelle Yeoh and Gerard Depardieu.
Much of the music is being performed by Achozen, and in an interview conducted recently Shavo insisted that the music is groundbreaking.
Shavo On Serj Thoughts On Achosen
"[System Of A Down vocalist] Serj [Tankian] who is not the biggest rap fan was just like, 'Get out of here! What are you doing?!' It's different stuff man. Achozen is going to trip people out. That's all I can say for it. It's going to trip people out in a really good way. I think rock fans are going to start liking hip-hop. It's not rap metal. There's no heavy guitars or anything like that. I'm doing all the beats. It's just like a different realm of hip-hop with heavy hitters on top of us."
Achozen's album will be released in 2008, but if delays prevent it from happening, fans can go hear Shavo's work in the soundtrack for the film, which is slated to open Labor Day, 2008.

: He said Serj in not a fan of rap and since the majority of Systems stuff is written by Daron and Serj, I don't think we need to worry about that.POSTED: 12/12/2007 - 10:41 am / quote |

: Guys, you really need to open up. Hip hop is one of the most constantly evolving genres in the whole spectrum of music. Infact, rock is one of the genres which is most stuck in the past (not to say I don't enjoy it, its just a fact). Its because the only hip hop you guys have probably listened to is the shitty "hip hop" from people like 50 Cent and Eminem and shit. Seriously, check out bands like The Heliocentrics, Portishead, Saul Williams, Wu Tang Clan, GZA, Mos Def, its all really good stuff. I'm ure at least one of them you will like. Probably Portishead.
I'm really looking forward to this. POSTED: 12/12/2007 - 11:57 am / quote |

you like what you like, hip hop can "evolve" as many times as you want, if you dont like it you just dont like it, you like blue i like red; if you like blue and red, thats you, it doesnt mean someone is closed up and you are opened up, some people are very specific in what they like, they narrow everything to this specific thing that they think is best.POSTED: 12/12/2007 - 01:23 pm / quote |

: well i dont even know how you can even classify hip hop as "music". It has no musical structure to to it and it all sounds the same every song. And this doesnt mean that were not open minded....it just sucks! SOD shouldnt change their sound anymore....POSTED: 12/12/2007 - 03:13 pm / quote |

Actually I'd say rhythm and beats are a big part of music. I understand there are acoustic songs, and a capella, but why else would we have insane drum sets with like 20 toms, and rhythm guitars, and bass guitars? It's to expand and enhance the musical experience. It's just that rap doesn't generally have very long, changing melodic parts, but rather short, melodic loops repeated over.
I'm pretty pumped to hear what Achozen has to offer.POSTED: 12/12/2007 - 11:35 pm / quote |

Oh my god. You can't just say anything isn't music. Its been a while since I've been on UG, and I never realised how closed minded everyone is on here. Of course it has musical structure. Otherwise it would be free jazz (which is also awesome). More rock sounds the same than hip hop. I mean, look at bands like Guns N Roses and AC/DC and the Who, now they, in my opinion, are some of the most boring bands on the planet. In my eyes their songs all sound the same. You probably haven't heard any hip hop past 50 Cent. I implore you to listen to some of the stuff I mentioned. I'm sure one of them will open your eyes.
