Taylor Hicks New American Idol, Chili Peppers Kiedis Says It Is Not Harming Music

Taylor Hicks became the new American Idol on Wednesday night, beating out Katherine McPhee to win the honor. While Hicks is the unlikely idol, there are some who think that the show got it wrong.

There are also some people who think that American Idol is ruining the music industry. Anthony Kiedis, singer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers who own the Number One album in the land for a second week in a row, said that he doesn't think that a TV contest makes much of a difference.

"It hasn't come to that. That's just one little, weird, portion of it. There's a whole wide world of great music out there that's not on television. So I don't think of that as happening."

Red Hot Chili Peppers are set to hit the road May 30 in Barcelona, Spain. The first single from the album is "Dani California."

I don't think it's american idol ruining the music today, it's the dumb kids with A.D.D who don't have the patience to listening to a song longer than 5 minutes with kick ass guitar solo's. All they wanna listen to is their little 2 minute emo songs or their shitty screamo punk songs playing nothing but open chords. Sorry for being so harsh but somebody had to say it.

i think the reason for that being is that people of all ages can vote for american idol, thus giving them a much larger quantity of people that can vote(i.e teenagers) who can not vote for a president. you also sound like you have something stuck up your ass and should chill the **** out.

1 important distinction... You can only cast 1 vote per person for presidential elections. Idol you can vote as many times as you want, calling # or texting. The numbers are misleading.

Now, if we could get a presidential candidate worth voting for....

that was a cheap shot. kiedis is much more relevant to comment on this than most people runing around onstage these days with a microphone. he was asked a question as a veteran musician who's been making music for over 20 years.
