Three Days Grace Singer Becoming Less Animal

Three Days Grace will wind down its tour this weekend, but a highlight from this round of dates has been the visits to addiction centers in each city. Singer Adam Gontier checked himself into a facility after the album-tour cycle that preceded their latest album One-X. Gontier checked himself into the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in his hometown of Toronto. He made a triumphant return there on November 29 to play the intimate show for its patients.

Gontier said that he was working on the album when he was seeking treatment, and he hints that "Animal I Have Become" is more autobiographical than people first realized.

"I think 'Animal I Have Become' is actually asking for help. In the chorus line, it's 'somebody help me tame this animal I have become,' and that's what it's about. It's about help."

Gontier was then asked if there was one moment when he realized he had a problem.

"I don't think there was any one [situation]. I think it was an accumulation for being on the road so long that once you.... You get into the mindset and you get into the lifestyle where you're constantly putting on a show every day for people who don't know and everybody knows you, but they're actually people you don't really know. You don't realize it until you get home and you get done and you start to realize what the reality is. It's a different thing. Not any one time in particular. It was just an accumulation of being on the road so long."

Three Days Grace will be home for the holidays, and it should give them time to soak up their latest accomplishment. The band's "Animal I Have Become" took home Rock Song of The Year honors at this year's Billboard Awards, held earlier this month in Las Vegas.

To be honest, I wasn't really impressed with the album as a whole. "Animal" is an awesome tune, though . . . . so sayith the bass player.

I've always liked Three Days Grace -- it's exactly the kind of new rock I love to hear, as opposed to My Chemical Romance or even Avenged Sevenfold. Just great in-your-face power chords and growling vocals.

And it's good to hear that he got over said addiction. I've watched my father and my friend's brother go through it all; there comes a point where it's impossible to get out. I'm glad this guy did while he still could.

3DG is amazing. IMO their first album was better, but 1-X is still very good. These guys are pretty good live as well

one x was a great album, as was the original album before it....3DG is just an all around awesome group.

and it is indeed great that he got himself out..because ive seen people get too far in, and its not pretty...

I really don't like Three Days Grace, I saw them in November in Saskatoon, I doubt anyone but me knows where that is. I only went cuz my girlfriend likes them. Anyways, I think most of their music basically sounds the same, especially live, but with that concert, most of the bands' music sounded the same (Three Days Grace, Theory Of A Deadman, Mobile, and Idle Sons were there). Their One-X album was alright, and not all of their songs sound the same, but most of them do. And yeah, Riot is especially repetitive

Whats your problem shingaurds13? I'm a metalhead for life, but I still listen to Three Days Grace. I mean yeah, they're not Black Label Society or anything, with no Zakk guitar-god solo's, but it's nice to listen to a band that are heavy enough and have catchy riffs, and are not My Chemical Romance. Besides, their songs are fun to play, and therefore easy cover in a band.

I am a loyal fan of Three Days Grace and always will be. I'm going to see them at the Hampton Colliseum in March. They're playing with Nickelback and Breaking Benjamin. I've been waiting a long time to see 3DG, and now i finally am, plus they're touring with my favorite band, Breaking Benjamin! So I'm stoaked, 3DG, keep rockin! We love you!
