Velvet Revolver Say No To Reality Show, Plan To Announce Lead Vocalist |

It's certainly no secret that Velvet Revolver, having recently parted ways with Scott Weiland as their lead singer, are currently looking for a new voice. After two albums together, Weiland decided to reunite with his original band Stone Temple Pilots and now Velvet Revolver, which consist of former Guns N Roses members Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum, are in the process of trying to replace him. After leaving Guns N Roses and successfully starting Velvet Revolver together, the band has a 'Been There, Done That' attitude and they couldn't be more ready to start the process with finding a vocalist.
We caught up with drummer Matt Sorum to get his thoughts on the band being excited for the next chapter together.
Matt Sorum Excited To Move Forward
"We're coming out with something in a couple of weeks and I think it's going to surprise everybody. It's exciting. We're moving forward. We're going to keep going and play Rock N Roll and get a new guy singing so, we did it before we'll do it again."
Sorum even admitted that Mark Burnett, Producer for many hit reality shows on T.V., approached the band about possibly doing a sequel to Rockstar, but Velvet Revolver didn't think it would hold true to their integrity. Sorum also talked about saying no to the reality show and where the band is in the process of finding a new singer.
Matt Sorum Gives An Update On Velvet Revolver Seach For Singer
"We're really seriously thinking about doing something online. Yeah, we got offered a couple of different television ideas you know. Mark Burnett called us and asked us to do that Rockstar thing and we basically said 'No!' to that. We didn't feel it was right for us. No disrespect to him but it just didn't feel right for what we want to do. As many years as we've tried to keep our integrity intact we felt that wasn't the right forum for us to do it so, we got some ideas and we should have that news in a couple weeks."
Both Matt Sorum and Scott Weiland have gone back and forth in the press about the bands breakup, even to the point where Weiland threatened to reveal secrets about Sorum to the press. Stone Temple Pilots have started their reunion tour with a show at Rock on the Range in Columbus, Ohio and current tour dates extend until October 24th at Voodoo Music Festival in New Orleans. Look for Velvet Revolver to get back into the studio in the near future, with a new vocalist and a new band name. Many rumors as to who the band has been rehearsing with have been circulating, but everything remains under wraps, at least for a little while longer.

: Axl don't need these jokers, he's a one man show, this dude can sell out stadiums, VR is limited to playing clubs. Slash hasn't written a memorable lick since 1992, you guys just wait for Chinese Democracy, that shit may not be hard as the old Guns material, but it will speak volumes of the dedication Axl put into this album. VR should change their name, because they're boring, they need a fresh new start with a new name, ditch Dave, and get Izzy to sing for them.POSTED: 05/26/2008 - 02:10 pm / quote |

Slither alone was better than anything STP did. Your fooling yourself if you think the Deleo brothers were more creative than Slash Matt and Duff.
Some STP music is good but in 2005 at a Velvet Revolver concert in St Paul Mn, when Hoobastank asked how many GNR and STP fans were in the crowd GNR got the hands down louder response.POSTED: 05/26/2008 - 03:04 pm / quote |

I liked Scott with VR, a lot actually, but they obviousley have to move foward. Chris cornell is too simplistic in his vocal style I think. He works awesome with the bands he's worked with, but VR is too much of a loose/fluid melodic band for his raspy voice which sounds better over more stiff music.POSTED: 05/26/2008 - 10:51 pm / quote |

Weiland only gave them like 3 decent songs in the 2 albums they made imo. I also heard he sang kinda crappy live like he didn't care, so i think VR definitely has the potential to improve with a new vocalist.POSTED: 05/26/2008 - 11:35 pm / quote |

: umm Izzy Stradlin for the win. ever hear '14 years'? that song is one of the most underrated GNR songs and it was so great. not to mention Izzy had a voice that already sounded like it would do great in a mainstream world, which isn't the important part, but an added bonus if you will.
ah hell, why not just make my head explode and reunite the original band(minus alder...)
THAT would make my decade for sure.
anyone remember watching the MTV music awards back in 01' (i think) when GNR were the unexpected guest and opened w/ welcome to the jungle? you got chills just hearing the name being announced b/c that's how much people were excited (granted the performance was only mediocre, it was still Axl's usual engergetic self). now imagine the REAL GNR reforming...they would be the biggest band today. they are still really high up there but more mainstream bands get the news....original GNR would make people shit their pants while driving and hearing the announcement on the radio.

David Cook, this years American Idol!!
LMFAO!!!
.
Mike Patton would be a great fit but I'm betting it will be AXL and I hope i am right. They came real close to getting back together in 2004. Also, I have heard most all of Chinese Democracy, it took a couple listens to get used to but it has some really great material on it.
I'm praying they get back together!POSTED: 05/26/2008 - 11:55 pm / quote |

if they were, they'd be dropping huge hints, which they aren't.
Also Axl would be all up in arms and telling everything that would listen, and the current GnR members would be like '**** Axl, he ditched us.'POSTED: 05/27/2008 - 02:24 am / quote |

Izzy would be a good fit, I guess.
But hasn't anyone mentioned Eric Dover yet? His work with Slash's Snakepit (It's Five O'Clock Somewhere) was amazing. Great vocalist, great album. I want to see that happen.POSTED: 05/27/2008 - 03:42 am / quote |

as for Chris Cornell: it would never work bc chris works with a way slower tempo then GnR or VR ever used.....he was good with Audioslave.....great with soundgarden.....now hes washed up...lol
i think slash and axl are prolly talking together about a reunion with tour dates, etc but like Rage Against the Machine a new CD is def would be out of the question if touring happens with GnR
take some notes all those bands ive mentioned now dats good music!!!!!
