Waters And Mason On Board, Pink Floyd Reunion Lies With David Gilmour |

Although nothing is set in stone, it certainly looks like 2009 has the makings of being quite a historic year for Rock N Roll tours. Already with a pending Led Zeppelin reunion tour on hold while Robert Plant finishes his current tour with Alison Krauss, it now appears both Roger Waters and Nick Mason are up for a Pink Floyd reunion as well. But with Roger Waters still touring with his solo band in 2008, could 2009 be the year Pink Floyd finally return to the stage with their most successful lineup, which consisted of Waters on bass, Mason on drums, David Gilmour on guitar and Richard Wright on Keyboards?
Many thought a Pink Floyd reunion with principle songwriter and lyricist Roger Waters would never happen, since Pink Floyd went through one of Rock N Roll's most bitter break ups with both sides stuck in litigation over many things ranging from use of the name Pink Floyd to how royalties would be divided. But with Bob Geldof accomplishing the previously unthinkable task of reuniting Pink Floyd on stage for Live 8 while bringing attention to world poverty, it now appears a Pink Floyd reunion tour is at the very least possible. We caught up with Nick Mason recently to get his thoughts on the possibilities of Roger Waters touring with Pink Floyd again in the near future.
Nick Mason And Roger Waters Up For Pink Floyd Reunion
"Well, I'm absolutely up for it. Curiously enough in an interview recently Roger said he was up for it. So, really it's down to David now. That's the way it seems to work, the ball sort of gets moved around every now and again."
So being a drummer, how does Nick feel about touring with his long time friend and bassist Roger Waters again?
Nick Mason On Performing With Roger Waters
"Actually it's always great to play with Roger. In fact I've done some shows with him about five years ago after the great sort of punch up. In fact playing with the bass player that you've played with most of your life is just a really easy experience. Roger does have the reputation of being a bit tricky sometimes but actually playing is easy."
Currently David Gilmour is taking 2008 off after a very successful tour in support of his latest release 'On An Island.' Roger Waters, besides performing at Coachella Music Festival in Indio, California on April 27th, 2008, has a few North American Tour dates in early May before heading back to Europe for dates extending until Tuesday May 13th in Denmark. If Pink Floyd were to reunite and hit the road in 2009, would they put together a greatest hits tour? Or perhaps would they do something extraordinary and head out on the road with The Wall, which would undoubtedly be the biggest tour in history. As of press time, only rumors are circulating and nothing is set in stone, yet.

: Well, we've seen tons of news items on Pink Floyd POSSIBLY re-uniting again since Live8, I just want them to get on with it already. Dave and Roger need to get over themselves and start playing again (even if neither of them really need the money or publicity brought about by a giant tour mentioned here). I just hate the fact that if they did play again, they would only hit the major cities and come nowhere near, let's say, Darien Lake. Still and all, if it came down to it, I would save all the cash I could to go anywhere and see these guys perform.POSTED: 02/22/2008 - 12:11 pm / quote |

: It's funny actually. Gilmour is an amazing musician but his lyrics suck a lot. Water's lyrics are right up there as some of the best ever IMO but the music doesn't always follow suit (Radio KOAS for instance). I really hope that they reunite for a new album/tour. Amused To Death is the only album put out by either camp that comes close to the glory of Meddle - The Wall era Floyd. POSTED: 02/22/2008 - 04:17 pm / quote |

: Interesting report on Gilmour and Waters, but lets not forget Waters wrote THE WALL. They were their best when they co-wrote.
What is going on with these news stories? Are the writers so daft that they don't see how they're all the same, or are they just trying to get hits? It has ALWAYS been on if Gilmour wants to come back. For YEARS! A reunion is no closer now than when it was after Live 8 some years ago. Or are memories getting real bad?POSTED: 02/22/2008 - 04:30 pm / quote |

No way dude. The Division Bell has some really good songs (High Hopes!!!)on it but it's still just Floyd-By-Numbers, as Momentary Lapse of Reason was. It starts well and ends well but the middle slump gets pretty boring IMHO. The lyrics stink compared to past albums, Gilmour can't consistently write good lyrics and neither can his wife. With Amused to Death, Waters had Jeff Beck around to make sure that the music was on par with the lyrics. And the amount of new/innovative ideas that it presented (the least of which being the QSound recording) puts the Division Bell to shame because it didn't have anything new to offer, it had all been heard before on earlier Floyd albums. Amused To Death is infinitely better musically, lyrically and conceptually than the Division Bell. POSTED: 02/23/2008 - 03:58 am / quote |

: This would be THE ultimate show to see in 2009. I am priviledged to be "old" - LOL because I have seen the original Pink Floyd lineup many times. I also saw the Roger Waters Dark Side of the Moon tour in 2006. Please note my name: Vera Lynn - I am such a fan that I changed my name in 2006 to Vera Lynn in honor of the song Vera (Track 4 on The Wall). I'm also impressed by those of you that are under 20 on here that are into Pink Floyd as well -- definitely a timeless band. Rock on Everyone!POSTED: 01/02/2009 - 10:51 am / quote |
