Wolfmother Can Not Patch Up Member Split

Wolfmother's Myles Heskett and Chris Ross have both left the band and will form a new project, leaving singer/guitarist Andrew Stockdale as the lone member. Neither side would comment, but a statement by the band cited creative and personal differences, which ultimately couldn't be worked out despite efforts up until earlier this week to do so. That became apparent during and after their last gig, the Splendour In The Grass Festival in Australia's Byron Bay earlier this month. The break initially started with Ross, and Heskett wouldn't continue without the original line-up intact.

With this phase of Wolfmother apparently over, we asked bassist Chris Ross about the writing process with each other.

"We totally honestly and earnestly, just the three of us, getting in there and playing what feels good for us. There's no dissecting of the songs and, 'Can we do this and that.' It's just totally instinctual, and I think from growing up with those kinds of sounds, they are the sounds that you love. It's just what we make when the three of us get together. We've mucked around with different sounds, and we all have our own things. Sometimes someone would bring something-- this was before we were working with Wolfmother -- we were three songwriters who would come in with our own ideas and then try to get the other guys to play it. It would never kind of just roll like that. It wasn't until we just relaxed and the three of us just went, 'Let's just play what feels good,' and we'd all bounce off and that's how the sound came about."

Singer/guitarist Andrew Stockdale now plans to find other musicians over coming months and to then begin making a new Wolfmother album. Heskett and Ross will continue to solidify their still-to be announced project.

But anyway, didn't the split up over musical differences? I mean, the bassist just said in that interview they all relaxed, played the stuff they all listened to together, and yeah, I mean, seriously, WTF?

dude these guys were so amazing! i was hoping that they would bring back oldschool rocknroll/metal, they were like cream-led zeppelin-black sabbath all mixed into one

I'm a fan of wolfmother, but I think stockdale should start up a new band instead of carrying on under the wolfmother name. I know that stockdale was the main member in the band that wrote most of the stuff but it just wouldn't be the same without the other two.

Same. I mean, the title is completely inane. It may be that Andrew Stockdale is simply looking for other people to work with him. It's understandable and the decision may be better off, for the group. However, this is Stockdale's problem. He's a good singer, bad guitarist. The other two are better at their instruments than he is. Also, he needs to find someone with the same passion that he has.

Living in Australia, I am so throroughly sick of Wolfmother.

You can't bring back rock and roll, and nobody should try. Evolve already.

Yeah, wolfmother had a more retro sound then most bands but you could still tell they were a newer band or I could at least. There are bands out there today that if you heard you would never of guessed they were new bands, they sound just like from the 70's. I'm talking about bands like Witchcraft, Danava, Graveyard, Witch, Dead Man and stuff like that. If any of those bands ever became popular then they would have a bigger impact on bringing old school rock back then wolfmother did. And it's a shame because all the bands that I mentioned probably have more talent then wolfmother. I like wolfmother and I'm not bashing them, it's just that their stuff seems to be pretty simple.

You would do the same... Think after all it took them to get recognition and to be worldwide known, to just drop out the name and create a new band, start from scratch... no way.
And he's not at a level to start solo.
